Default are Oil filters reusable?

I'm trying to narrow down a problem I'm having with an oil leak. I just bolted on a GREX sensor attachment for an oil pressure gauge, and bolted my new (but reused) Mobil 1 oil filter on top of it. The GREX piece is bolted down as tight as I could get it with a ratchet. The filter is as tight as I could get it by hand tightening.
But I'm leaking about a 4" circle of oil after I take the car for a spin and park it, so I'm assuming oil is leaking while I'm driving too.

Could it just be that the oil filter needs to be replaced since it was bolted on a few days ago (new), taken off, then put back on? Both the filter and the aluminum attachment have nice rubber seals....Why is my oil leaking?! grr....

yes you can reuse your filter, just incase you didnt know, you dont have to drain the oil to take the filter off. While you have it off make sure you didn't double seal the filter ( the old rubber seal with the new one also).

I know that you don't have to drain the oil...I take the filter off when the car is cold so that no oil drips down.
Thanks for that idea..I'll check that an old filter seal isn't jammed in there somehow....
Hmm, any other ideas?

only to certain exent though...i change my oil filter at every changr...reason being that even if you but brand new oil into your car and the filter is even slightly dirty, your oil gets dirty quicker...

do you think the oil drain plug might be loose or too tight? i know it's a simple thing, but *shrug* it happens.

one suggestion too... you should buy an oil-filter tool... it does help tighten the filter more and they're not too expensive

hehe....nope it's not the drain plug this time (Actually I did this the other night....had problems leaking oil around my fitting where it's welded in the pan. So I unscrewed the fitting and put like 5 layers of teflon tape around, screwed it back in, and prayed that I wouldn't have another leak. I went down to check a few hours later, and sure enough there was a little circle of oil on the garage floor. So I put the car on jackstands, got under there and realized that I forgot to tighten down the drain plug. )

I have one of those oil filter tools, but I heard somewhere that the filter only needs to be (and should be) hand tight....

I'm thinking of taking the GREX attachment back off and putting a nice layer of Honda Bond on there so that it might create a better seal. Any other ideas?
