Does anyone here with a turbo have an oil cooler? I'd like to do some open track days (i've done 1 in the past, before the turbo) but after talking to some people, it sounds like an oil cooler is a good idea. If N/A hondas have issues with oil temps, then surely it'll be bad on a turbo.

So does anyone here have a cooler? I've been looking through some options but i don't know if any of them will fit with my intercooler + a/c + radiator up front ('99 civic si)...

What I would like to know is, where can I find one of those sandwitch that goes in between block and oil filter. I dont want a oil relocator because its too much of a hasle. I think Mogol or Mocal, or something like that, makes them. Terry I think you have that "sandwitch" thing Im talking about...

i use the greddy....

it has a thermostat valve that's incorporated into the sandwich...
stays partially closed until the oil reaches temperature, then the valve
opens to the cooler.

nice.... and it came with -10an lines....

you guys can get sandwiches from permacool...
if you want to make your own oil coolers

Hell, if you're really cheap then get two of them and make an intercooler, HAHA.

Little more on topic, at what point do you guys recommend getting a oil cooler? Like if you are boosting a certain amount, or run your car so many times at the track.

go to PepBoys and buy one of their oil coolers made for hot rods, works fine. they're more affordable than the greddy ones

Do you have any pics?
Where do you have the cooling portion of it mounted? In front of or behind the radiator? Do you still have AC?

It sounds like it wouldn't be too hard to install but i'm not sure what kind of room i have in the front.

As for needing one, I was talking to a guy (not sure if he's active here) who has a hatch with a b18c5. He does a lot of open track driving, and he said that his oil temps were getting up to 280deg F. on his oil temp gauge. SOO he got a cooler. I figure if he has temp issues on the track with an n/a car, then i'll definitely have issues with my car.

If you're not doing any track driving, i'd say you should start off with just an oil temp gauge and see how high your temps get under aggressive driving.

SeaDawg, yes that is a monster truck, an Emaxx to be exact. Anyway, that oil cooler is going on my corolla, the motor that's going in there had one stock so I figured that since I'm not using the stock one I better replace it with something else.

juggernaut ey, I hope you did something about the suspension on that thing. They have almost none stock. you should get an E/maxx you can jump them like 6 feet with no problem. HAHA

The b18c/5 will bolt on to the b18a/b blocks but the coolant hoses are a different matter. One, there are three different types of coolant pipes that run from the water pump to the thermostat hosing and the hose sizes off the pipe are different from the oil cooler. I have a 94 Helms and it shows 2 outlets off the rear coolant pipe. I bought a gsr pipe off Leo and it had one outlet pipe. Of course the ls has no outlet pipe. Two, the theromstat housings are also different-the b18b and b18c/5 has different number of outlets. You could use size adapters to make everything fit, but I don't like the idea of messing with coolant flow. Three, the b18c/5 blocks (at least the 94) are different in that they have an outlet for coolant.

I ended up just doing the front mount and yes it's a pain. I did the same set up as on the hybrid board, however I used 45 degree elbows. Have your dremel handy. If anyone is interesed I have pics. Also, when I get the turbo/intercooler, I anticipate haveing to remove the whole hood latch mechanism to push the oil cooler back to make room for the intercooler...make way for locking hood pins.

On the cooler portion, isn't there another one besides front mount, I forget what it's called but I think it goes along the side of the car???

Actually I was referring to an aftermarket mount, where it runs I think, not sure, on the side of car along the inside of side skirts...

the oil cooler sits in front of my radiator on the passenger side...

as for A/C, nope took taht out.... but the kit was designed to work with a/c....
