Oil will get caught, but not a lot. I admit, I'm running the breather filter, but it's always better to run a hose to the intake so the crankcase fumes are evacuated by suction.

Bump... is it worth it for D16 Turbo guys to run a catch can? i know oil vapors will lower the octane rating and the can hopefully reduces it... but is it worth it for us SOHC guys?

if it reduces the chance of detonation no matter how small, go for it. Even if we're sohcs. Depending on the condition of your motor, for some it'll help alot, for others a little.

what the hell does having a sohc motor have to do with this?
In any case...you hook up the catch can to the pcv and the intake, NOT THE CHARGE PIPE, so there is no boost, only vac.->atmospheric.

Yep, the application is the same for a sohc or dohc so there isn't a need to differentiate the two. pcv -> can -> pre-turbo

FYI, I am running SOHC FI, and after about 9K... I pulled off the intake pipe going in to the turbo.. there is a **** load of oil.. well enough to blow some into the intake charge which as we all know helps to promote detonation...
A catch can is necessity on all built cars FI OR NOT - In my opinion.
