Default the official ebay turbo thread.

I hope that this thread will not cause to much controversy but lets try to keep it to the facts and real setups.

Ill start by listing a few of mine:

turbo d16z6
ebay cast mani
ebay "50 trim" turbo
ebay w.g.
2 5/8" down pipe out the front bumper
ebay bov
dsm 450cc blue tops
tuned on uberdata on 1 bar
ran great for the 8 months I had it until I sold it.
13.5 @ 107 on street tires in a full weigh 93 ex (2400lbs)

ls turbo
1990 da motor
ebay mani (blox or inline pro style)
ebay "57 trim" turbo from emusa
ebay fmic and bovs, home made charge pipes
3" open dp out bumper
emusa 38mm w.g.
dsm 450s then later on rc550s
tuned on s300 on 18lbs
ran 11.73 @ 117 on 24.5s on 17lbs with ebay turbo (314/280tq at rrev motorsports dyno)
turbo started smoking pretty bad after 4 months
ran 11.56 @ 123mph on 24.5's with a garrett t04e 57 trim and xs power i.m. at 18lbs

the things Iv noticed are the down pipes and dump tubes don't fit for **** and the turbos must have a oil restrictor. it is def hit or miss with what works and what doesn't but Im very impressed by some of the recent parts Iv bought on ebay. emusa and wyntomn have both had alot higher quality and better finishes then the stuff Iv had in the past.

please don't let this thread be a flame war I just wanna have real live experiences that people can see and then decide if these kind of parts are for them or not.

We have used quiet a few Godspeed turbos on cars over the years. Like you stated its hit or miss. We have also found out that running a restrictor helps out alot on the longevity of turbo. Every Godspeed turbo after a few months of no restrictor would start to smoke at idle. With restrictor no problems up to this date after every install sense. My daily is on a 60-1 Godspeed for the last 8 months, no problems. Thats all from personal experience.

One of the local tuners says the same thing about them being hit or miss. Was actually gonna pick up a godspeed 60-1 for my ls but kept running into stories about them hittin the ******* in a few hundred miles. But I'm not sure if they were runnin oil restrictors or not. Mmore then likely not.

if I were to get another ebay turbo it would be the cheapest one they sell lol. they are like $140 now shipped. for that price I can afford to take the gamble, if it goes out ill order another one and sell the used one as a rebuildable core. you will usually have no problem getting 50-75 bucks for a used ebay turbo in smoking condition. Iv honestly had really good luck with them.

another thing Id like to add is to the oil feed and return lines. Iv had good luck with the ebay oil feed lines, for under $20 you can get a line with the T for the oil pressure sensor as well as the plate that has the restrictor hole in it. Iv seen a few issues with the aluminum restrictor plate braking off at the threads due to over tightening. I had this happened to my sohc turbo Im putting together so I built my own oil restrictor with a brass male/female 1/8th npt, a tip for a wire feed welder for .035" wire and a jic to 1/8npt adapter, I just grinded down the nipple to fit snugly in between the two brass pieces. as for the olil drain lines. I will probably never run a ebay setup. I tried one time. I wasted about 3 hours, had countless pieces of wire in my hand and the fittings were far to big to get a decent angle with the return line. I just go down to fluid connectors and get some pushlock hose and barb fittings and call it a day.

The last trip to the local track on BFG's

11.89 @ 115 boost cut in 4th due to the cold

The weekend before the track wasn't prepped as well
2.0
7.92 @ 94
12.01 @ 118

This is going on two years with this setup and I bought the turbo used so IDK.... I drive the car 3-4 times a week when I don't need the work truck for business and I don't plan on changing the turbo until it is out of it's efficiency range or it dies. Probably going to upgrade the intercooler long before the turbo.

My luck with ebay turbo products have been 50/50

Not sure how it happened but my manifold just cracked one day while driving lol.

http://s155.photobucket.com/albums/s...g%26newest%3D1

replaced it with a blox manifold and have been good since.

only other complaint is how fast the turbos go out. Every 4-5 months my turbo starts smoking at idle.

Other than that the kit has treated me well. I think for $500 it is definitely worth the fun. People can laugh but 280whp and 192tq in my honda is no joke (to most people atleast)

There are 3 basic things that happen to turbos no matter what brand. 1. A filter must be on if it is driven more than at the track and on and off the trailer. 2. the return line must be unobstructed otherwise it will start to burn oil (also parking on an incline will cause some minor smoke). 3. The feed line must have the proper restricter so it doesn't blow the seals.

I have replaced Garrett units with "ebay" turbos because of these issues on others cars.

Had a b16 with a ebay turbo kit, in one of its many stages I ran a 9.2 at 90mph in a 1/8th. I could never get the manifold or wg to hold boost so Id always hit my boost cut. With a ss manifold and ebay wg I could hold no lesss than 18 pounds, eventually I purchased a tial which helped out alot but would hold no less than 13 pounds and this was on a 5 pound spring. The turbo blew oil in the charge pipes from day one, and yes it was restricted. The manifold completely fell apart after about three months. Kinda the worst investment iv ever made, but without that Id have no turbo honda experiance and its was an absolute blast while it lasted.

One of my old setups about 3 years ago

bone stock ls motor with 150k, a/c, p/s
ebay cast manifold
ebay 50 trim
3" dp and exhaust thermal
12psi full weight 95 gsr chassis
ebay f1 stage 4 clutch

13.0 on street tires @ 104 on a very conservative tune

Oil restrictors are your friend with these things and any turbo for that matter, currently have one on my garrett turbo for 3 years and wouldnt look back

I would say stay away from the "kits" if your gonna cheap out at least. Im helping my friend turbo his integra right now and everything is just terrible. Everything's needing modification and fab. Manifold metallurgy looks like ****, lots of casting flash all over. Cars been down for a month, hopefully finishing this week.

At least hes using ectune.

Yeah you dont want an Ebay KIT. piece it together with ebay turbo and cast only manifold. use a real wastegate and try to use a real bov. Ive run ebay bov's they last for a while andend up shitting out on you eventually

I agree, I think if u stay away from the wastegates, turbos, and manifolds ul be good....lets c that leaves u with a ebay ic, bov, piping, downpipe, and maybe the oil feed and return, lol.

the cast manifolds are fine. Iv never had an issue with the bov's and Iv ran about 5 of them with no problems. the wastegates work good as long as the banjo bolt isn't too long and goes into the housing and rubs on the diaphragm causing it to tear.

I'm peicing together a kit right now for my zc motor in my ef. I have a 60trim and some precision 440s, and I'm looking to get a fmic from ebay and maybe a mani but those manis really seem sketchy. I might just spend the money and get a decent log manifold from somewhere. Already got a greddy type s bov and I plan on getting a tial wastegate and doing my own piping

That looks like someone bottomed out bad with a low hanging downpipe. I have seen that before with a friends car. And as for the turbos just don't get on ebay and sort through them by LOWEST FIRST and treat it like you should and the turbo will be fine!
