Default Not getting boost... bad turbo

i put my motor in and put the turbo kit on.

went for a drive and i wasn't getting any boost. i checked all the pippings , couplings, etc....

then i looked at the turbo with the car on and noticed that it was spinning. i turned the car off and tried to turn it by hand, and it wouldn't move. i got it to move, but it was hard.

so what may have happened? the turbo worked fine 3 months ago when i took it off. after i took it off, it was just sitting in the garge this whole time until i put it back on today. couldn't letting it sit for a few months do anything?

possibly dropped a nut or washer or anything down into the exhaust side of the turbo. You did hook up the oil line right

nothing got dropped into the turbo and the turbo itself wasn't dropped.

yes, the oil line was hoooked up. i even loosened the oil line and turned on the car real quick and oil was coming out the feed line.

Not saying you did dropped it in there. I had a washer fall in my manifold, didn't hit the turbine wheel until about 50 miles later. Didn't destroy it, must of fell at idle i guess. Either way, turbo would not spin. Pull off the turbo and look at your exhuast side. Start there, may have to pull it apart.

well, i got the turbo to spin, but it doesn't pin freely. its still kinda hard to spin it, but you can spin it now. when i do spin it, the blade rubs on the exhaust side.

i turned on the car, but with the car on, the turbo won't spin.

so i'm guessing it needs a rebuild.

You need to take off the exhaust side so you can see what the turbine wheel looks like now. If its toast, you need a full rebuild.

i took the turbo off the manifold and was inspecting it. i started to take off the bolts on the exhaust housing that holds those two semi cricle bracket things on the housing. when i was going to loosen the bolts, i noticed 3 were missing and the other three that were on there was very loose. i tighted the bolts and when i spun the shaft again, it spun like it should.

its not hard to spin it anymore. not shaft play, no rubbing on anything, nothing.

what do you guys think?

what are those bolts for on the exhaust housing that holds those two brackets?

The bolts hold the exhaust side on the center housing.

Thats really odd that tightening the ex side bolts made a difference in the shaft spin, never really heard of that before.

If the exhaust housing came out a bit it might jam the axle.

i put the turbo back on the car and took it for a drive last time. it seems to be working just fine. went it to boost just like when i was using it 3-4 months ago.
