Is it normal to have EGT Temp Rising under boost
Help need answers.
I have been street tuning with a wide band O2 and egt gauge and notice that my egt temp rises fairly quickly (i think) compared to normal driving. Here is what happen. When I'm tuning fifth gear pull, full boost at 8psi, I notice my egt temp starts to rise and the longer I stay under boost it keeps rising until I let go. My AFR is under 12:1. Is this normal? Could it be my timing? Any help or first hand experiences. Thanks

yup, that is why 5th gear boosting for more than a quick burst is not a good idea. I would do your tuning in a lower gear, because when you spend all that time in 5th with the motor fully loaded, that EGT's are going to skyrocket. You can go it fifth, just dont put it to the wood for like 2 minutes starting at 30mph, lol. Basically what was said before...

Not necessarily, its a matter of tuning for it.

So what is the normal temperatures that we should see on an EGT guage.
Given, a setup of 8-12 PSI on a Honda motor with pistons and stock cylinder head?

I stay under 800C at 8 PSI in 5th gear pulls... Much lower during lower gears.

Asking what temp someones EGT runs at it useless unless you know where the sensor is. Some people put it in the manifold and some in the down pipe. the ones in the down pipe can read up to 150 deg F cooler then the ones in the manifold! I learned this when I saw a friend was running about 100 deg cooler then me, it turns out he had his in the down pipe and I had mine in the manifold.
to answer your question I try to keep mine under 1500 in the manifold. I am also running forged internals.

So from the answers I am getting, it is normal for egt temperature to rise when I am in boost for a longer period like for 5th gear highway runs.
Because when you're on the highway, you can easily be underboost for a longer period and not realizing that your egt temp is getting high.
Does adjusting the timing help?? If so, would you advance or retard? Thanks Everyone for your response.

Re: (Poey2)
1600 is high, you should definitley have your car returned. My car lays down low 300's on a street tune and I never see above 1250.
Note that retarding timing too much and dumping a lot of fuel can cause high egt's.

Re: (revhigh96)
Just make more power so you'll hit faster the rev limiter in 5th
As for EGT, there's a lot of factors that can affect the reading. I keep mine around 1600F and I never melted anything in the last 5 years. Probe location, manifold construction, under hood temp, EGT maker.... can affect the EGT reading. As an example, 3 years ago, my EGT was reading 1500F at WOT, then I wrapped the manifold and the EGT was reading 1600F right after.
trbob16a: My EGT read 1300F-1400F just cruising. Maybe my probe is not quite calibrate but I don't care, I just keep my EGT as a reference. If it suddendly start to read higher, then I'll start to worry.
