High hp and boost by gear
Hey guys I was hoping to hear from the the people who have high hp hondas (500hp or more) and are useing Boost by gear. My next project I was to make around 500hp or more and plan on running boost by gear to help get traction for the street. Anywys who has a similiar setup ? and how dose it work/ how do you like it

I'm thinking of doing boost by gear also... but man, Hondata is gonna take a fat chunck out of my wallet. Hopefully worth it.

Re: High hp and boost by gear
Boost buy gear is great, im a little over 400whp and i get perfect traction in all gears except 1st but no fwd will hook in 1st on the street with boost. Its fairly simple to setup and make changes and even has air temp corrections. Great setup for sure. Good luck

I hope this thread gets going a little more. I would like to know as well. Anyone not only doing boost by gear but boost by gear/rpm as well? Fill us in please.

Re: High hp and boost by gear
You set it up how ever you wish, you can run certain boost at certain rpm's. Ive personally found with the lagg in the turbo ive got more than enough traction with a nominal boost pressure setting per gear and not raising by rpm

Re: High hp and boost by gear
I use boost by gear with my Hondata S300, awesome... works very well, easy to use, and definately worth the money imo.
So much easier to control the wheel spin when your running only as much boost in each specific gear as whatever surface your on can hold. Lets you make the most of your power.
Also I like to play with the boost in a gear by rpm... works well to soften the hit of a big turbo coming into boost imo, especially since its alot of weight to motivate being I am a full weight 4 door car. Lag does help, but when boost does hit on my setup, it hits like a ton of bricks and doesnt give the tires even a chance in lower gears. So using rpm and controlling the onset of boost so you bring it on a little more progressively seems to make a world of difference over just letting it ramp right up to a target value set for entire gear alone. Probably a little easier on parts too.

Still breaking in my engine. I will let you know when i start to play around with it. I cant wait to use 2 maps. one for bbg and the other for showing off with high boost
i have about 450hp with a b20/vtec.

Another Hondata S300 Boost by Gear user here. I only set it up not too long ago. I think it's the greatest "mod" I have done in years lol.
I have 10psi (wg spring) in 1st and 2nd. 14psi in 3rd. 21psi in 4th. It's right past the edge of traction in every gear--on most street surfaces. 4th gear at the limit of traction feels oh-so-good lol.
Like twkd, I also mess around with the by-RPM stuff. But for the opposite reason. I have a smaller, super-fast spooling turbo that likes to spike a lot on my cast DRAG manifold. I soften the boost hit between 3500-4000RPM to prevent boost spiking.

what is your power output at each of these levels of boost?

Re: High hp and boost by gear
i have a question about boost by gear in kpro... Are you supposed to set your bc duty % higher in the lower rpms to spool the turbo faster and then lower the bc % as the higher the rpms gets in each gear?
sorta like 1000-5000rpms set it at say bc 71% and then 5000-7000 set it at 51% and 8000 at 41% and so on.....

Re: High hp and boost by gear
I have the rpm in my boost by gear set up activate the solenoid in lower rpm range. I keep it at about 90% duty cycle to a certain rpm, this keeps the Wg completely closed for quicker spool but you have to time it right otherwise it raises to quickly and hits boost cut, took a few tries but ive got it down very nice. When experimenting with this please be sure to set a lower boost cut and your tune is good. Datalog the boost so you can keep a good eye on the wideband. If you were tuned with the boost coming on later there is a chance there isnt enough fuel in the lower rpms to compensaet for boost coming on earlier. Dont just go at it like a mad man otherwise its an easy way to nuke a motor
