No compression.
Hi guys.
I've got very little compression on 3 cylinders after 1/4 mile pull.
It's a b16a2 running 8psi with 270whp.
I was racing on Sunday, and as I let off the throttle at the end of the 1/4, plumes of white smoke started coming from the exhaust.
I presumed it was head gasket, so I took it apart today to check. The gasket looked fine. I checked the Block and the head to look for anything obvious, but it all seemed fine.
I turned the head upside down and poured some turps in the combustion chamber to see if there was an obvious leak. - nothing.
I poured some into the cylinders to see if the Piston rings were fucked. - nothing.
I put on a new HG and torqued to spec and the same 3 cylinders gave me the same readings.
What could cause white smoke and low compression on 3 cylinders?

Re: No compression.
Did you take a straight edge to the head? Are you using head studs or factory bolts? If bolts did you measure them to see if they stretched?

Re: No compression.
I'm leaning towards a warped head at the moment. Just because:
Cylinder 1 - 4bar
Cylinder 2 - 6bar
Cylinder 3 - 8bar
Cylinder 4 - 15bar
If the ring-lands went, it wouldn't really cause steam. Plus I checked the bores and they were in good condition.
Of the ring lands went, I'd expect some scoring.

Re: No compression.
When my ringlands went nothing was damaged, everything stayed in place till I removed the pistons then I had chunks of ringland in my hand. It 100% sounds like your ringlands gave it up.

Re: No compression.
Put compressed air into the cylinder with the valves closed. You will be able to easily tell whats messed up by where you hear the air escaping from. I pressured up #3 and had air roaring out of my catch can. No-brainer at that point.

Re: No compression.
Yes. Smoke is coming from the catch can.
It does run if you keep the revs up but it doesn't want to idle.
Oil looks fine.
