Nitrous and Race Gas
When you run a bigger shot of nitrous you are supposed to retard the timing according to how big the shot is. I'm guessing the only reason you'd retard the timing is to prevent detonation correct? What if you were to prevent detonation by running higher octane fuel like 100 octane or so. Could you get away with a bigger shot without pulling timing back? Or is there something else i'm missing here?
Thanks!

Re: Nitrous and Race Gas (gothatch)
I tune my cars timing to max power N/A
when I use my 100 shot I mix the gas half 91 half 111 about 100 octane and leave the timing alone
If I use 91 only I retard 2 degrees and it kills about 10 hp.

Re: Nitrous and Race Gas (TREVER)
bump this thread to the top. i was wondering if you can run a higher shot with say some 110 octane. looking to run a 75 shot but wanted more for the track with a nearly stock setup with exception to fpr and fuel pump

race gas is a must for high shot cars i always recommend it for cars running more than a 75 shot. YES it does help reduce detonation, and tuning timing on NOS is sometimes viewed as a voodoo technique. but as stated above you lose power from retarding timing, nos like aggressive timing and compression, but sometimes you have to know the thresh hold when it comes to the limit,
its not always the detonation or timing but the heat at the improper time, metal parts will only take so much heat, before they give.
i always followed my manual for timing and nos jet sizing

Re: (mrbsponge)
if i were to run a stock gsr engine or even a b16 with bolt ons with no more than fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump, would i be able to run around a 100 shot with race gas and retarded timing, only at the track was what i was wondering?

i did it on my GSR and my B16!!!!
gsr went low 11s, and b16 high 11s, all on the same re-used bolts...I/H/E type r intake cam, and slicks on stock suspension!
pull timing about 4-5 degrees, racegas, ngk 7 series plugs, haul ***!

Re: Nitrous and Race Gas (ITR981002)
Nitrous accelerates the burn rate. Or increases the flame speed. This is why nitrous makes more power with timing retard. How much you retard timing depends on the type of fuel, engine and amount of nitrous being added.

Re: Nitrous and Race Gas (RA166E)
Man,,,, ive sprayed 125 DP on stock timing with 87...
Do follow me, i got lucky and had it tuned REALLY fat.
This was a pointless 400am post.
