The only problem with the non-inverter welders like the Tigmate (which is the same thing as the Miller Econotig) is that they pull TONS of current.

Personally, I did not have a 70 amp circuit available in my garage to run the Econotig/Tigmate (Miller/Hobart recommend a 100amp circuit).

The Maxstar will run off a 110v 20A circuit @140 amps output, a 10A 220v circuit @ 140A output, etc. Inverters are very efficient.

The only downside to the Maxstar 140 is that it is DC only. So you cannot weld thick aluminum with it.

dusty - remember way back when I offered to get you a heavy duty ESAB that is the size of a dishwasher - should have taken it even with the shipping after I saw how much you spent. we have really bad roads in Canada and stuff keeps falling off trucks - kidding of course. cheers

Hehe... ESAB does not have too good of a reputation though anymore (everyone seemed to like their old machines though). I honestly didn't have the power or room for one though

I am happy with what I got. The maxstar 200 is a very nice machine

I dont keep up with the "which welder has bad rep" gossip, but mine has been good to date. If you need a hand choosing the right rod/stick let me know.
Remember when in doubt on stainless - 308L always works

Yeah I have a bunch of 308.

I have been using RG60 on mild steel but I am not convinced that I like the way it flows. I am going to try some ER70S6

Schweet! Maybe I can convince you in helping me loop my wastegate dump into the downpipe some day. I'm sure you need a welder for it. Hehe.

See Dustin, and you wanted the gay MIG welder. Arent you glad you got the TIG now. Well it looks like you're good at fusing things together, just need to get some rod in there. Damn, I might have to get one now. I'm feelin the one for around $1000. If I need any heavy fabrication done I'll just go down to my friends shop. Hmm, dammit.

Yeah, fusion welds are way easier than using rod Hehe. I do not like this RG60 stuff... the metal seems like it has to be soooo clean to even use it. I have a 10lb box of ER70S6 coming today so I'll see how I like that. I also bought a bunch of gas lenses
