New here, hope to learn a bit:)
well for starters im not a honda guy. saabs are more my thing.
not that any of you care but mine is a 91 9000T with a TD04, SD chips and a full 3 inch exaust for around 300 hp and 320+ ft lbs.
I love this car to pieces, but the issue is if i want much more power its gonna cost quite alot of money, so i decided to do some experimenting.
my friend bought a 94 civic with a ?1.6 vtec, and i convinced him to turbo it.
which means that i will be doing most of the work, and all trial and error will be done on his dime
My ultimate goal with the 9k was to bolt a holset onto it and tune, let her ripp, but i feel that my engine management wont support the hp that turbo is capable of.
and from there i figure i could probly build a honda block, with ??? vitara pistons, ARP head studs, and a turbo system. tune it on the cheap and make some very respectable numbers. the idea is to have a build motor in a "shitty" 4 door civic, or accord, thats rusty and multi colored, and used for drag racing every so often.
Edit: to clarify, i want it to be ona 2000ish budget. and a holset hx40, ebay IC, fuelmanagement, clutch, ect.
is this a reasonably goal?
i am very familiar with FI systems (saab tech, just about everything is FI) and will try to help anyone with whatever information i have.
have a good memorial day everyone

whats up and welcome.... 2000ish is doable but again like others will say. you get what you pay for. you can boost it but to more more power and add reliability will cost alittle more. but again you know all that. again welcome and hope you find some answers to some of your questions

Re: (civicsi940)
well, that sounds good. i am aware of the fact that 2000 ish is pretty cheap.
what i need to know is roughly how much it will cost to make the motor handle about 10-20 psi(my saabs running 28PSI, thats why it seems to break alot )
do i need to upgrade the rods.
i know the pistons must be changed, and ARP head studs.
is the stock headgasket worth anything. i know for saab applications the copper headgasket is a race only item, adn while it holds boost and compression, it leaks fluids everywhere.
turbo wise i plan to run a holset for -400 dollars capable of 500+hp, but probly wont spool till 4k, which to me is completely ok.
now the delema is how to tune it, what would i need to buy.
i can slap a air fuel gauge on it, but i dont know how to richen her up.
TIA guys.
