New clutch disk Question?
Well my ACT organic street disc is getting beat up after 3 seasons of racing , so i got a new ACT 6puck this week to throw in. I heard somewhere the puck discs dont need break in like the normal street discs? is this true? I cant see why it would be other then the materials?
Also can i just ruff up the presure plate with some sand paper to get the hot spots out ? I did dthis last time and i noticed the clutch started to slip on me at hiher hp levels. I am just thinking it was the disc and not the pressure plate too . I also had the flywheel preofessionally redone
Any opinions or words of the wise?
Thanks , Pete

Re: New clutch disk Question? (itr206)
Kevlar/organic disc + 9 psi = 8K miles before it started slipping. I pulled it out right before the rivets made contact with anything. I had no hot spots, no wavy surfaces, or anything a fingernail could catch on.
I hit flywheel and PP with sandpaper, slipped in an ACT 4 puck, made a firm resolution to spend the usual 100 miles gentle break in before I abused it since the surfaces weren't freshly machined and perfect. 15 minutes later I was in a shopping center parking lot doing 3rd gear burnouts. Oh, well.
Feels nice... abrupt, but I can feather it enough to get going without a passenger guessing it's a performance clutch. No shudders from improper break in. I'm happy.

Re: New clutch disk Question? (J. Davis)
thats cool , i gave my 1st one like 500-1k break in , thne when i took it apart a couple months ago and redid the flywheel and rpessure pleate i think i gave it like 400-500 miles.
im taking it to NY to get it tuned, so just from the trip up there ill have atleast 300 miles on it .
