Neptune Y8
Quick question fella's,
I know this belongs in the EM forum, I tried there and havn't had any luck.
When I take my Y8 to be dyno tuned with neptune, I want to have an idea of what a safe total timing number is.
I know this is hard to say for sure, just looking for ball park numbers.
Hopefully I can take my car to NJ to have xenocron tune it, and if I do, then I don't have any worries, but I might not be able to.
The Y8 has a base timing of 12* instead of 16* correct?
Can Neptune be set up so that is the starting point instead of 16*, or does it have to be compensated for some how?
I will be running *around* 20 psi on 93 pump, hoping to make in the 300-325 whp range.
I have heard horror stories of people getting tuned, and leaving the dyno with too much timing because it worked good on the dyno, but then detonates and **** blows up out in the real world.
My goal is to determine if lets say a relitively safe number is 15*, then I want to make sure I'm not leaving the dyno with like 22* of timing asking for disaster, you dig?

Not familar with neptune, but i would imagine they should have a timing sync feature..
Regardless of whether you sync it at 16 or 12 is irrelavant. Hondata has a sync feature so basically If i were to set the feature at 16 it would disable timing change(like jumping the service connector on OEM set-ups) Then at 16 you would go and change youre ignition timing to match the 16 you entered on the timing set feature. This would sync up the Base timing with the timing maps. So it really shouldnt matter if you set it to 12 or 16 since the timing is going to be off the ignition map. This way whatever you tuner decides to enter for ignition values it should be a true reading. It should not change after you leave the dyno. If someone were to not sync it properly and set timing to 16 degrees on the igniton map, and the sync was off 6 degrees you could actually have 22 Degrees of timing since its not syncd right
Im really not familiar with neptune, but they must have a sync feature.

What about top end timing values? I just want to be weary of having a rediculous amount of timing, the shop I will likely have to take it to is a good tuner, but he tunes a lot of DSM's and suby's and not so many hondas, so I just want to be armed with info to protect my investment.
its pretty cut and dry...if its synced properly at idle the rest of the map should be accurate based on whatever timing value is entered. its synced at idle not in higher RPM
Hrtuning, said it has the sync feature so youre good to go....If youre tuner is a good tuner he would be aware of the sync feature. I an understand youre concern tho. I think you will be fine. IF youre really worried just tell him to be conservative
