x2.
I want the EMS to do what I tell it. Not what it tells me a value should be. Autotune is for weenies.
Autotune also, in a way, promotes a one man operation. You will have to focus on driving and the computer....

Is bluetooth the only way to connect? How stable and error free is the BT connection while tuning? Can anyone give details of their experience tuning with it through BT?
Any plans for an nsx app?

BT is great. No problems from me. I'm not 100% sure on what the distance is though. I know there are 2 versions of the BT dongle. One is 100 meters and the other is just 10 meters. I'm not sure which one James has selected to use.
There is a USB port as well to connect thru.

I agree, and I will tend to imagine that most of the people that use Crome to tune a variety of cars will as well at first (if they understand its usefulness and its dangers). I never thought of that feature as Auto-Tune though personally...and more of an efficient technique used to dial in the part throttle fuel maps.
I imagine as you get to using Neptune more though you will find efficient techniques using a different manner. It all comes down to learning how to use the software, being good with it...and efficient.
If computers didnt do things we weren't telling them to do some of the time, none of us would be on Honda-Tech right now.

I was using Bluetooth from about 30 feet away from the vehicle. The further away you get the more data will need to be resent... i.e. slowing it down a bit, but the data is all checksumed so it won't send bad data to the unit. If you get too far you'll lose the signal with no ill effect. If you stay within range you can stay connected for a very long period of time, provided that Windows doesn't throw a fit for no reason. Mac users have it made, I've never once had a single issue with Bluetooth on the Mac.

After dicking with engine managment one way or another for like 7 years now- It's pretty obvious that you either LOVE or DON'T auto tuning (reguardless of the EMS system in use).
I've never needed it, but that's me.
Thus, I would prefer other features be developed and perfected.
---
On the flip side, the couple Autronics and a Hydra Nemesis I fooled with or been close to... those "auto tuned" really well. As long as the VE table was correct, you just set the desired AFR and go.

Right, you can tune a few maps, and it will pretty much tune itself from the VE table. Pretty neat stuff.
But for this platform, I would rather everything work perfect then have auto-tune. I never use it anyway, so if everything works the way everyone says, I will be one happy person.

Got the 1st batch in as well, everyone who ordered a Pre-Sale board will be shipped Next Day Air on Monday
10 Blue Tooth modules should be here Monday as well
Each of my Neptune Board kits come with a FULL OBD1 ECU Chipping Kit as well in case your ECU is not socketed already

being a network guy, I have a bit if a concern on the BT side. think what it will do to a car that is on the starting line and someone sitting in the stnads with a laptop connecting to their ecu and then turnign it lean on the top parts of the map.
it's going to happen. not a maybe, but a 100% certain. untill they learn to fully encrypt BT, I highly recoimmend everyoen disable it and use only usb or at least only have it runnign while actively tuning. after turn it off. (assuming it can be disabled).

In all reality though, isn't the practical range of BT much less then standard wireless so you'd never have to worry about that?

There are two versions of BT.... 100 meters and 10 meteres. The ONLY version that the RTP currently supports is 10 meters (30ft).

I find it highly unlikely...are there BlueTooth 'sniffers' out there? Like Tepid said Bluetooth can be password protected and the person connecting to your board would have to know the exact serial number of the board to be able to connect the Neptune Software to the RTP unit anyways...this they are not going to be able to crack, so as you can see their are layers of things to work around.
Bluetooth can easily be unhooked from the board to disable it though, although at the track, not having to hook up cables is a major plus
Just dont **** off your tuner

Yup, the serial numbers and communications are fully encrypted, so it's not something you can easily crack your way into. That was a major concern I addressed a long time ago. Thanks for the input though.

also think about all the car manufacturers are including bluetooth in their vehicles- if there was a true bluetooth issue, two cars next to each other at a stop light could attach to the same phone? like others said, password protection is the best option
