Default Need Welding advice, any welders in here???

Hey I plan on making my own custom 3" exhaust. I'll be using aluminized steel piping. What kind of rods do you use to weld this together? What type of welder is needed? Any tips I should know??

ER70S-6 is what I use for mild steel (TIG). RG60 works too (metal needs to be really clean with RG60 though... it's gas welding rod)

If you want to use mig, look for E70S-6...

Hey this may seem really stupid but...is mild steel and aluminized steel the same stuff? Also would you recommend mig welding it together?

You can stick weld with 6011, no cleaning necessary. If you want pretty, you can use 7018. It is doable, but the MIG or TIG is easier....

no, mild steel is just steel and will rust... aluminized steel is "aluminized" so it wont rust.

Yeah, i have a pack of 6011s in the garage. Those rods make stick welding almost easy. Thats what i would use on exhaust piping.
This is if you have a stick welder of course. If not, see above

Alright, I understand how to weld mild steel piping now. My piping is made out of aluminized steel. Is it just a coating that I can grind off and then weld with 6011's? Thanks for the help so far!!

You can grind it off.... You can actually probably just weld it anyways without any ill effects.
