Default Need a tip on how to remove rod caps..

I am in the middle of rebuilding my short block and I was curious if anyone had some good ideas on how to remove rod caps with out the crank spinning and distorting my plastigauge readings.... anyone?

Thanks

I usually just loosen both rod bolts but not pull them out. Then tap on the bolt heads with a mallet and that pulls them off the dowels.
