Default Need some suggestions for air filter...

I know this topic has been beat to death but I have been searching and I cant seem to come to a conclusion on what I can do with my setup. Presently I have two sides of mesh screen with a layer of a wife beater in between clamped to the inlet. I know this isnt the most reliable set up but just running screen isnt an option since I live in New Mexico an we have crazy dust storms. I was thinking of possibly takin a K&N filter an just clamping that over the inlet but I havent read of anybody doing this. Please let me know some options other then just screen/open inlet...

Oh and BTW this is on a top mount on a gsr swapped hatch. I litterally have an inch between the turbo inlet and the frame of the car.

You can buy short K&N filters and clamp them right onto the inlet. A lot of people do it with space constraints.

i think what he is trying to say is there is only 1 inch of space between the inlet of the turbo and frame so he is contemplating taking the k&n material from the filter and clamping it over the inlet... correct me if im wrong op.

Bingo...lol Thats exactly what I am contemplating. Have you heard of anybody doing this? If so does it work? Or are there better options?

you should post a pic of your bay. Your idea would be better than what you are doing now. i would say the 2 issues would be ensuring the turbo doesnt suck it in and having to clean or replace the filtration media a lot more often.

Couldn't you throw a couple silicone couplers on there and put a full filter over near the motor mount? Cone filter = more surface area = more flow and better filtration.

It could be possible the K&N sells a 4" short filter with the inlet being offset....they have alot of custom configrations.. It would be a really tight fit...but its possible...you may have to trim youre radiator support just a tad for it too fit better...

You could create a 180 degree bend out of silicone couplers, go straight up with the first one off the turbo 90 deg. 4" to 3" reducer, then into a tiny piece of 3" pipe ( just enough to clamp the couplers together), then into another 90 deg. 3" coupler pointing up over the top of the turbo back toward the pass. side of the motor bay, then bolt in a piece of 3" pipe taking it over near the trans. and put on a cone filter...

there is not enough room to run a coupler off the turbo, plus a big cone filter. it looks like there is about enough room to fit your fist with an inch or so on each side near the mount/hid ballast. you may be SOL and have to get a different type of top mount manifold or have one made if you really want to run a filter that bad. Or you could hack up your core support to make some more room, but that's ghetto.

I think there is...just run a bend towards the motor mount, then put the filter in that empty space. Just eyeballing it without any measurements, it seems like a 45 degree would do the trick: http://www.siliconeintakes.com/index...0c4ef06af8442b

Some tweaking and modification may be required, and the silicone may rub against the metal lip that sticks out, but some creativity can easily solve both of those issues. And I'd be willing to bet you make more power than with 2 screens and a piece of a shirt.

Thanks man I am gonna def try and go this route may have to grand the radiator support a bit so it doesn't rub a hole in the silicone...but that just may work.

My first thought was duct tape, but this would look much cleaner.

I do this also for the "CAI hole" so my couplers dont get cut with pipes moving. ans also the metal edge near my mishi rad since the rad hits the frame.
