Default Need New Turbo, Stick With GT35R or ........

Well since my GT35R is blowing oil, it's time to either rebuild it or buy a new or different turbo. I wouldn't mind buying something other than a GT35R, but are there any others that will bolt up to my down pipe?

what are your hp goals?
what were you making before?
if you are going to jump, then go t4 and be done.

Why not just go with this option: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/....html

This turbo is on my sc300 and is producing 418hp/tq on a shitty tune. I love the numbers since it's not too much nor too little. I am having a hard time comeing up with the 1300 for a new turbo and was just curious if there is another that will bolt up to my down pipe without modification.

I checked it out and it's roughly a $200 differance between a rebuild and a new turbo.

you dont have too many options for a direct drop in. gt30r, gt35r, and gt3567r thats about it. if you are trying to save some dough maybe you can pick up a gt35e? non bb version. just have to make sure both turbine covers have the same external dimensions.

if you dont plan on going over 500whp the 30r is where its at! a little bit cheaper than the 35r too.

If I'm going to be spending the cash then I'll just go with the 35r. But this car has been sitting and I'm itching to start it up with new management and get it tuned.

Could it be that since I am running no oil restrictor with -4an line that the turbo was getting too much oil causing premature failure?

Yeah, you pretty much answered your own question on that one.

I'd get a restrictor from: http://www.atpturbo.com

Get another 35R! It will be worth it although it is pricy...
If both your turbine and compressor housings are still in great condition u may want to look into just getting a new CHRA.
Unless u can find a 35r now for a decent price.

Well atleast I know now what caused it and didn't buy a new turbo and run it on the same setup. I bought the car with this turbo so please don't think I did this lol. Where did you place your restrictor and I still need a new turbo right?

Nope, don't look like it. It's actually a brass fitting with no flange, but the 35r already has a built in one already.

Well then why are my seals blowing oil? The turbo is relatively new from what the previous owner said so...... That link goes to the wrong thing. This is what I was referring too.

35r is a great turbo, if u size non bb turbo right, u can get the spool close enough.

I'll stick with 35r but now I need to know if I need a restrictor and if that is the right one.

I was going to recommend the gt32e, but you decided to keep the 35r

So once I start blowing oil, the seals are done even if the restrictor is added?
