need knowlageable verification of 400whp b16
This is the setup i have being built by a shop. I need to know if 28psi is too much for my turbo and motor on pump gas. this is not a strip/track car. kinda a daily driver. Ive read people making more HP than this on pump gas. my first attempt at this i did not have a sleeved block. im looking for some re-assurance the reason my first block blew was because of catastrophic failure (#4 cylinder cracked sleeve) and it most likely wont happen again with sleeves.
at 22psi i yielded 350whp. 28psi should be 400+~whp
b16a2- darton open deck sleeves .020 over, eagle and cp setup, 9.0:1, Brian crower stg 2 turbo cams, titanium retainers, valve springs, fluidamper, FAL fan, mishimoto radiator, hasport solid mounts, D2 coilovers
obd1 tuned on ectune w/ electronic boost solenoid w/ boost by gear option
68mm throttle body, skunk2 intake manifold.
turbonetics t3/t04b .48 a/r 50trim. cast log manifold, 38mm turbonetics evolution wastegate
i know the simplest answer is to get a bigger turbo. probably a 60trim. but this is my current setup and ive spent ALOT of money getting this done.
any info/tips/advice would be appreciated.

Another turbo, retune. Sorry to say that, but in your case, it is that simple. the older turbonetics used stage 2 turbine wheels. That's why its taking so much boost to get that power.
yea get a new turbo even just a new t3/t4 57 trim .63 a/r will get you where you want to be...i run one on my stock b16a at 11psi i made 320 at the wheels tuned by matt shue
this is a legit question.
i thought it depended on how much power the engine made that decided weather or not i needed race gas. there is another guy that had same motor built. almost exact spec's except on a 60trim yielded 432whp on pump gas.
20 psi on a 50 trim is different that 20 psi on a 60 trim. so why would it matter if i ran 28psi on my turbo if it got me to the same HP goal?
just wondering where cfm comes in

420 is a little much to be asking of a 50 trim, power AND pressure wise.

Small turbo+turbo out of its efficiency range = hot air into motor
hot air into motor = high combustion temps + lean fuel mixture
lean mix+high temp = boom
So yea, get a bigger turbo.

i checked out turbonetics site, it says that this turbo is good to 325-425 HP. if i was getting close to that level i should just turn boost down so im operating out of the turbo efficiency. i need to check the compressor maps ...
Thats a big gap, the 425 is probably with a stage 5 turbine wheel and .82 turbine housing and still the compressor would be out of its efficiency range, as stated above you probably have a stage 2 turbine wheel and no its not worth it to upgrade just buy a bigger turbo.
because at first did not sleeve the block. bought pistons for 81.5mm (wasn't gonna sleeve) then the block went boom.
from what i can see on the compressor maps, im gonna need to turn down the boost for now, till im able to get a bigger turbo. this turbo for the stage 2 wheel is rated from 325-345. so thats where ill
stay at for now.
