I plan on installing an oil cooler that is inline to my turbo and want to get some input on what you guys think. I am a little concerned about how it will flow because the oil cooler is sitting below the turbo on the stock AC mounts. Also the oil cooler is from a turbo volvo.

It will cool oil. Personally, I wouldn't put it right in front of one the hottest areas on the car. You have the hot side right behind it. also, a really hot manifold. I hope you never intend to be at a stop cuz it'll probably heat soak.

dont put it in face of your turbo ...be logic ... try to tie-wrap it on the front face of your rad this way when your fan starts it will cool down your oil...

you need to at least turn that oil cooler on it's side or oil will pool up in it. Ford copcars from the 80's had a big problem with this and their oil coolers.

also, is that your oil return line poking out under the turbo? where the hell is that line going?

or is that a coolant line for the turbo?

I think an oil cooler for the turbo should be temperature regulated more than just throwing it on there. You'd need to run a thermostat, but since the routing is in series, that makes using a thermostat very difficult.

I think using an integrated oil cooler/radiator system is better, but a lot more expensive.

Humm.. I guess I'll put it sideways in the corner of the bumper under the headlight.. Should get some decent air flow there. Also, thats not my oil drain line, Its a coolant line for the turbo.

just another idea, I run a lot of items in my front wheel wells, keeps room under the hood, jaut not maintenance items, you can run it flat on the plastic louvered wheel well, or maybe even bolt it perpendiclar to the outside or the frame rail, you already have some nutserts that will take an M8/M6 bolt.

You could slap a fan on it and then manually or thermostatically turn the fan on.

You dont put oil coolers on turbo feeds, there simply not enough flowing oil to make it effective and if you cool it too much the oil gets thick and starts dragging your bearings and slows the turbo spool

The should be fitted on a sandwich plate from the filter. It cools all the oil going into the engine that way.

at what tempature will this accure.

i run the same setup here. the oil temps going into the turbo are ~100 when driving.

150 at light.

dude i have the same oil coooler from a volvo. i just haven't figured out what fittings it needs. when you get all your lines and fittings together please update. thanks!

The principal should be the same for all oil coolers. The discharge side of the cooler has to be oriented so that any air bubbles trapped in the cooler can escape out the discharge.

Fittings up or sideways with the discharge side up are the recommended orientations.

i think mounting it the way it is would be fine. but im now worried about the oil going into the turbo being to cold.
