Need Help Stuck On Build
If anyone could chime in with an answer I'd greatly appreciate it. I basically have a stock b18c that I'm building for boost. I already ordered wiseco 81.5 mm flat top pistons along with eagle rods awhile back because I figured I would use them in my stock sleeves. My question is since I can maybe squeeze in an extra 500-800 dollars would it be in my best interest to go ahead and find a block sleeved already or send in my block to get it sleeved. The goal I'm shooting for is around 400-450 hp and will see some track couple times a year. This will also be my DD so having it last awhile is a plus.
Another concern is I really don't want to return the pistons if I decide on a sleeved block. Will I still be able to continue on with my build with the pistons I have for the goal I want to reach. Sorry if I'm not making any sense, but any opinions would be great.

If you have the extra money to sleeve then I would do it. On the other hand you can make 400whp semi-reliable on stock sleeves. Im at 470 on stock sleeves w/block guard, but its not my daily so if I blow it up then Im only out a block & time to rebuild.
Most people will just go 84mm when they sleeve to get the 2.0l. The other thing is I would prob shoot for 500whp if your gonna sleeve the block and all. Might as well make the most of your setup and still stay in a "tranny safe" hp range.

Even if you dont' sleeve your block, you'll have to bore it out for the 81.5 pistons. Open deck block guards work well if fitted properly before boring/honing. I can't stress how important a proper tune is for reliability.
You can have all the top notch parts and still not be reliable and still lack power with out a proper tune.

I know its all about the tune just worried that 400-450 hp on stock sleeves lasting along time. Since it being my DD and all need it to last awhile.
I just look at it this way. If you drive it like its bullet proof then you can guarantee you will break something. If you baby it and just rag on it every once in a while. I dont see why it wouldnt last very long.

Yea at 400whp your still not pushing the limits of the block... With Pistons and Rods you'll be fine... take that $500 and get a quality tune... And the car will last for a long time...
just make sure you give it time to break it in. dont go ricin around and boosting your way to the gas station. take it easy and have fun on the weekends
