Default Need Help picking out a clutch!!

need to get a clutch for my ride. I've been suggested ACT, ClutchMasters, Exedy, and Clutch Net.

I dont know much about clutches but this is what I Dont want. No Hard Pedal, No Chatter, and No Puck. I dont feel like working out my legs. I've been playing football (soccer for you Gringos )too long to work out my legs, so I dont want a heavy *** pedal to push every day.

I've got a 98 scGSR boosting 10 psi. Can someone recommend which would be a good clutch taking into consideration all the factors that I mentioned?

Any feedback on these brands would really help me out. Wether they are negative or positive.

Thanks Fellas!

act xtreme w/ organic strip/strip disk. almost stock pedal feel, and it holds up to ~319 ft/lb.

act xtreme and stock pedal feel arent even in the same planet, ive had both the extreme and heavy duty, trust me if you want a stock to lite pedal act is not an option.

from my research (trust me im very methotical) ive narrowed it down to the cm stage 3 or clutchnet stage 2.

the cm stage would be my 1st choice but for budgetary reason im going w/ the clutchnet stage 2,although it is a 6 puk it is sprung hub and alot of people say the pedal feel is even lighter than stock!

since you dont want the puk style though a stage 1 might suit you better, buuuuut since your pushing 10 psi you should go w/ the cm stage 3 if your wallet allows.
hope that helps

hanz...you mean the 6 puck right??? i've driven my friend's car and its pretty stiff..he has the ACT extreme pressure plate with 6 puck disk. It grabs hard and the pedal is way stiffer then stock.

ive had: act 6puck sprung hub, centerforce dual friction, and clutch specialties stage 2 with street disk...

the clutch specialties feels "exactly" like a stock clutch in terms of stiffness but engages very good when racing... it grabs just as hard as my act did.... plus my act had 2 bent teeth on the pressure plate after 6 months....

Well Pele I suggest you maybe want to try out a Clutch net stage two or three, my mechanic bought 300 of them and sent them out to have every other friction pad replaced with carbon, very smooth, stock pedal effort and you buy it in CAD dollars.

ok bitch, people will tell you ACT ACT ACT, but if you want soft pedal get clutchmasters, either stage 3 or 4. i had clutchmasters stage 3 on my si, and pedal was HONESTLY softer than stock, and it gripped, hard.

right now i have ACT kit, extreme pressure plate with street disk. i LOVE it. it grips so much harder than my clutchmasters did, but at the sacrifice of pedal feel. its a little stiff, took me a day or two to get used to, but it was definitely worth it.

it really all depends on pedal feel to you, so i say go with clutchmasters. get a stage 3. hell chris vo w/ the turbo gsr only has stage 2 and he puts 300+ to the wheels.

next meet if ya want ill let you drive my car and you can see how you like the clutch.

Hey!
I have the Centerforce dual friction and I really like it. It is heavier than stock, but just right. It doesn't give you a workout- especially if you played anything besides goalie. I drove my friends' new GSR with stock clutch and it was too light for my comfort- I played soccer all my life since I was 4.
I used to go through stock clutches about every 8 months (Yes I was very abusive). I have had this CF Dual Friction for three years and am even more abusive and have been turboed since last march. It is very smooth and engages very nicely.
I am going to get one for my new project ('94 civic hatch all motor) I like it so much....
If you were around here I would let you try it.....

I have the ACT Heavy Duty pressure plate and the Street/Strip modified friction disc... (HDSS kit) and the feel is about 15%-20% stiffer or so. Not too bad at all, and I LOVE this thing. The Xtreme PP from ACT is significantly stiffer than stock--not something that I can still canyon carve with...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Seems like I am leaning more and more towards the ACT than anything else. Keep the feedback rolling in.

For reduced driveline shock, I say go with a Clutch Masters Stage 3! It has a segmented Kevlar disc, sprung hub. It will help absorb some of the engagement shock so the axles do not. I would rather replace another clutch than axles.

like some people said earlier, the ACT Extreme PP and street disc combo is a bit stiffer than stock. But I think a soccer player like you could handle it!

good luck man

I have the ACT Xtreme pp & street disc in my GSR, and the pedal is about as stiff as a mustang 5.0 stock clutch.
the grip is awesome.

I've driven a car with the centerforce dual friction, another car with a Clutchmasters stage 5 and another car with the clutchmaster stage 4 and I would highly recommend the stage 4. The feel is just a little stiffer than stock for the stage 4.
