Default Need help/info ASAP! Turbo manifold bolts coming loose?

Ok...Ive head this problem for a month or so now. I only drive my car on the weekends, but it seems like no matter what the bolts holding the turbo to the manifold always come loose and fall out. Have tried threadlcok (cant take the heat) and JB weld (cant take the heat as well obviously). I allowed a shop to take my turbo off the manifold to clean it while my engine was being assembled at the machine shop, and after that is when I've had problems with it. It NEVER happened before...but the shop claims no responsibility. Has anyone else had this problem? he said its common....but I definitely doubt that one for sure. Can someone please give me some info here? Im not sure what Im going to do yet....

Make sure you have heat treated grade 8 bolts. My buddy was having the same problem until he switched to heat treated bolts. You can buy them at a hardware store like home depot or orchard supply.

What bolts are you using? Stock honda bolts? I've heard of the nuts coming off (on studs) when not using locknuts or lockwashers, but not the bolts. You can try some hondabond on the threads, or that hi-temp silicone stuff. I thought threadlock made a high-temp version, but I wouldn't know where to get it (check http://www.grainger.com for some stuff that might work)... and torque the bolts to 20-30 ft-lbs.

You are using a copper gasket right?

Use a grade 8 bolt and lockwasher. You can put a nut on the other end to get a little more holding strength.

thanlks for the replies. I am using heat treated bolts, and I am using the rev hard manifold so the bolts do not exit the other side of the manifold. I already though about using the nut on the other end...but it obviously wont work.

I also forgot to mention, I had no problems with the bolts before the shop took the turbo off the manifold, so Im not sure if they damaged the threads at all.

Well, only one way to find out. Take off the manifold and turbo and check out the threads. If you wanted to extend the bolts just get a longer bolt with the same size and pitch.

I experienced this for the entire summer, with the numerous other problems i faced. My final decision for the situation was to run longer, heat treaded bolts, double nuts and double locking washers. I installed everything on my 2.0 gsr block that is going in within a month or two. I shouldnt have any problems at all, but i wanted to go extreme so i didnt have any more headaches with keeping the stupid nuts on.

The problem with extended the bolts is that the threads do not exit the other side.....

it looks like this manifold

if you dont plan on removing them soon.
just do a quick little weld! (tack i guess is the right term?)

Maybe there's just too much movement in the whole structure?

Did you use a flex pipe after the downpipe?

This is what I was going to suggest. Is it a cast or tubular manifold? If it's steel this will be easy. Just tack weld each bolt in one spot -- grind it off if you need to remove the turbo from the manifold.
