Default Need External Ignition with Standalone?

I was looking at stand alone engine computers from a variety of companies and they do state that they'll interface with the stock ignition systems. Suppose I'm boosting a bit and looking for high hp numbers, is it necessary to get an aftermarket system like an MSD? Any specific/other recommendations?

Thanks
Ben

I'd like to know this too, I already have a MSD digital 6. While I benefit running about 8-10 psi of boost?

Simple Digital Systems is self contained, has it's own individual coil setup. Pretty slick. http://www.sdsefi.com Awesome standalone, very simple to tune.

The Electromotive TEC-II has them as well. I'm leaning a bit towards the Motec or the new AEM- each control the stock ignition parts.
What kind of new stresses are put on the ignition system by running high boost/hp apps? Both the AEM and the Motec can fully control spark, I was just wondering if the stock parts are up to providing the spark.

Thanks
