Why not stock?

Stock ignition, if it's for a street car. Should be enough. I hear a lot of people having problems with MSD ignitions.

 

Yup, my stock engine 97 gs-r runs great with the stock ignition at 7psi of boost. Plenty of other people do the same.

 

I recommend msd ignition, to prevent bad spark and many more problems, also would go with apex electronics product to help the turbo run better.

 

Im a big believer in stock and it has been really good to me. BUT, if I were going to boost 15+psi then I would go with a MSD. But untill then Im fine with stock.

run colder plugs though, and make sure you gap them right!
and just do a tuneup new stock wires, and rotor and cap

 

I woudl recommend an MSD Digital 6. The stock ignition can only handle so much. When running higher boost levels the cylinder pressure gets so high that it tends to blow the spark out, resulting in sputtering and ignition problems while under heavy boost loads. Do yourself a favor and remedy the problem before it occurs!

 

I was thinking stock is fine but I have a habit of nailing the rev limiter so i want spark cut instead of fuel cut.
what about crane ignition?

 

my plans for when ill be boostin 15-18lbs was to keep the ignition stock with the exception of an msd cap and an external coil. what do you guys think?
