That is the scariest piston I have ever seen! Maybe it leaned out, and melted over time?
Yuck...that piston looks soooo nasty.

I know....You had a bad set of Endyns where they added A LOT of silicone. The piston decided to slap(like silicone free pistons), so they broke like that....j/k
I'm sure it wasn't something to do with the fuel except maybe the injectors...if you said all of the pistons were like this

Gee I thought TOO said his Rollerwaves were bullet proof
Looks to me like you were running lean for a period of time until the pistons started destorting enough to allow the engine to start sucking oil. Once u get oil in the combustion chamber, that promotes detonation and even more heat. Just a guess but you were probably noticing a drop in performance and then jumped on it one too many times. Once the black death starts, it takes less than a minute.
You were using 12-1's on street octane with boost?

Re: Name that cause........... (kidkutz)
This a friends car. The engine had about 2000 miles on it. What we think happened is that oil was seeping out of the headgasket area and into the combustion chamber. Combine this with some lean conditions + time = dead pistons. Also, this was in a B20 block. It cracked 2 sleeves as well. That is the wierd thing. #3 and #4 sleeves were cracked. The 2 worst pistons were #1 and #2. 3 and 4 werent even that bad. I dunno. Cars are annoying.

Theres no way oil was seaping out from the headgasket into your cylinders. It would have to go through the coolant jacket first. I also think you ran it lean. Look at how the ringlands are pinched and pulled up. The only way for the motor to get that hot is lean conditions and the tops are all melted......Mike

ok umm i dont mean to be a dick but in order to do that much damage on the pistons and make them look that damn bad, he didnt hear any detonation,
also depending on different parts the compression ratio could be different, if the motor was CC'd then you would know,
the timing looks way off, waaaaay off

I was going to say oil, lean and timing mixed together. I had this problem and melted a Ferrea and part of my #2 Arias piston. It never progressed that far but I haven't taken my pistons out yet....

I once had a Je piston that had all the crowns broken off somthing like that. I think it had to do with bad mixture too lean and high engine temperatures. The timing was probably off too...thats bf I got a Haltech.
