Default N/A guy going turbo but still has one "stupid" question HELP!!

I have always run N/A cars but Im going turbo now with a 95 Civic with a D16Z6 fully biult top to bottom (rods, dish pistons, SS valves ect...) I am not using a turbo kit rather I have assembled all of my parts new and used from various places. Im all ready to go but I have a stupid question about my oil lines. I know the big bottom line is the oil return and my logic (as a N/A guy) dictated that there would be one oil feed line. However when I got my turbo it had 2 banjo type fittings. One on the front and one a little lower on the back. Are there 2 oil inlet lines?? The turbo is an Air Research m10 (like a small garret). There is also another line comming out that is smaller that does not attach with a banjo fitting. Im lost here. Remember I have always been N/A and this is my first turbo project. I have searched for about 3 hours now and havent found the answer any where. Everybody that is doing a turbo install already knows what lines are what so there isnt much posted anywhere. Why do I have an oil return and 3 other lines??????? I can post pics if some one tells me how.

Sorry for the newbie jackass question.

i'm not an expert on turbo specs but i'm thinking a water cooling line. so one pair for feed/return of oil and the other pair for feed/return of water. hopefully someone else can help out or confirm this. good luck

I dont think its water cooled though. It has the return on the bottom (of course) and 2 banjo fitting lines and one smaller line. A total of 4 lines. The oil return is the same as every other turbo ive seen. That leaves 3 lines and only 2 out of the three are identacal.

?????????????????????????

Let me know how to post pics or I can e-mail them to anybody that wants to help.

Tanks

I say that they're for coolant. The WTF line looks to be your oil supply line though.

hhmmmmmmmm..... The guy I got it from said it was oil cooled. That blows. I didn't want a water cooled turbo. Its just more crap to mess with (and go wrong) Anyone else want to second that opinion (that its water cooled?)

Thanks islandsi for helping with the pic.

those are for coolant, oil feed is on the 'top' of the chra, with the oil return flange on the bottom, and thos other 2 with the banjo fittings are for coolant, which you do not have to run if you dont want to, jsut plug them..they are for extra cooling and help extend turbo life after u shut down, on all ball bearing chra..

My next question would be....if I were to run the coolent lines and use them, which is the inlet and which is the outlet? I would think the inlet would be the one higher up (2 in the pic) and the outlet would be the one that is situated a little lower (1 in the pic). Thanks for the help guys.

WTF is oil feed

The 2 banjo coolant lines can have water be fed either way throught he coolant section, it does NOT matter.

Is it safe to just plug them as EdsGTI stated? And if it is ok, would it be better to use the water lines or not? In other words if I DO have the option to use them or not, do I have anything to gain by doing so? Thanks
Thanks alot for clearing this crap up for me. Its been buggin me ever since I got the turbo.

PS AbaZ, your avatar scares me

No, you dont have to run the coolant section of the turbo, its just to aid the life of the turbo, an example.. it's like brushing your teeth before you go to bed, it's a good thing to do, because your teeth will be better. But it will still get the job done.

But it really only takes like 15 mins to tap into your cooling system and run the lines, its really cake to do.

If you decide not to go the cooling route, you dont have to plug anything, no fluid will come out. Think about it oil/coolant dont mix in there its a seperate chamber around the center section.

Wont the whole cooling system run a hotter if it has to take on the job of cooling a hot *** turbo? I see that its a good thing to run your turbo cooler but not if its at the expence of less engine cooling.

Although those lines are so small I dont guess they would add much more heat into the system......hhhhmmmm Did I just answer all of my own questions?

This is not going on a daly driver by the way. It will be for a drag civic
