on my turbo, bought it new rebuilt and the nut on the metal wheel came off........

It was there....shaved down, you know for balancing....then after install and a few miles of spooling around i look and its just the threads for the end...no nut. It doesnt appear to be loose or anything, still spools fine.

Is it okay to leave it like this.....or is that crucial crucial so turbo doesnt fly apart.....what should i do? can i just put another nut on ther for the time being...or just leave it...etc.....all help is appreciated..

i would take it back to the shop and get a new nut put on. I would do this asap. The wheel will fluctate up and down casuing it to scrape i woudl not boost on it

without the nut wouldnt that throw off the balance, it is intended for it to be in place.

it would be the in and out movement of the wheel, instead of the up and down shaft play, that could pose a problem with no nut to keep it in place.

i would think that would be better than nothing... although I am not experienced with that ever happening.

get it balanced again after putting on the nut. you may possibly do greater damage with an unbalanced turbine.

for something that spins 50,000 to 150,000 rpm, you might want to err on the safe side and have a reputable rebuilder take care of that missing nut. It's one of the those 50-cent parts that is capable of ruining your day, and your wallet for that matter...

you gota remember that your hand may not be able to move it, but turbos spin in excess of 60,000 rpms, and that can move the blade. Once the blade hits the side wall kiss the turbo good bye.
