Default Should I keep this turbo???? please respond quickly....

What to do......

ok guys this turbo in a sense is a GT28rs the big .86 exhaust side as well.

brand new will retail for about 1200 bucks

I paid 300 for it. he had it on a 2.0 (sr20) said his dyno graph went straight up with it, it will go on my 1.8

only thing is the conpressor wheel is a little chewed,

so...
1. should I give it back and get my money back
2. keep it and replace the wheel
3. keep it and use it as-is

here are pics:

even though its pretty fucked up you still got a good deal,,i would keep it and replace the wheel and do a whole rebuild while you're at it..

just pray there isnt any other hidden damage

that is not a gt28rs. the RS retails for 1200. Find out exactly how much that turbo retails for and go from there. I blieve that is the t28bb turbo. im looknig for a price on them right now.

Looks like a regular T28. Depending on which year Silvia it came off of it could be ball-bearing or not. Definitely not a GT28RS. I'd give it back and get something else.

if its bb i might keep it but even then be highly inclined to give it back.

if its non BB definatly give it back. YOu can find them new for like 600 bucks.

Its not a GT28rs, just because it has BB (are you 100% its BB) and same size hot side doesnt mean they are the same .

That is a BB T28 Turbocharger, which has experienced some FOD in the compressor wheel. His power and torque went up because he had STROKE in the motor as compared to you. I would sell this (after a repair if possible) and get something else that would fit more your goals and what you need.

i've seen worse.. clean the fins up & use it... or change the wheel if you would like it to perform a little better!

nice turbo!

I thought BB turbo's couldn't be rebuilt or is that just the GT series?

I know this may be dumb...

but if the blades aren't touching the housing, grinding or anything like that.. can you just keep the same wheel (dont' remove the wheel) and trim or clean up the blades?? You may not get "perfect" efficiency, but it would do rather well... IMO. 300$ for a turbo is really good.

yeah you can just fix the blades, the turbo wont perform quite as well but will save you the money of replacement.
