Default My POS Intercooler!

So yeah. When I started this stuff(boosting) I figured I could save some money buy making my own i/c. Because we all know i/c's cost wayyy too much money.
I had 2 cores and I jb welded them together! w00t! I local buddy said he could get endtanks made for me . So I said sure. they were beautiful and were TIG welded.

At first I noticed a mounting tab had cracked. I then decided eventually I would take the i/c to have it fixed.... cars been away for the winter and today I finally got off my *** to take it off the car.
well looks like I might be having to buy one (but I guess thats good)
the endtanks didnt last that long . The i/c was on the car maybe 6 months and well look at the pics(i think the way I had it mounted probably added some stress but I didnt expect this)
Custom ownz j00

cracked tab

light on outside(cracked)

last 2 pics are with a flashlight inside the outlet.

I shouldnt be able to see the inside of the core from there.

Moral of the story.
MAKE sure you mount your intercooler properly !
Also make sure you get the work done somewhere good!

still dont know if Im gonna fix it or just buy a backdoor pwr from fullrace.

JB weld pwns TIG welding...ahhahhaaa
yeah the cores aint going anywhere.
wierdness

so im guessing thats some major boost leakage.
and im 95% sure I ran at the track this way!
so 14.2@98 on a crud basemap with some major boost leakage

I tried JB welding my intercooler brackets (steel brackets to an aluminum IC, and they cracked off completly within 3 weeks! Then I got some brackets welded for $15, should have done that in the first place!!

your number 1 problem is how the end tanks are made... you are losing potential hp when you make your endtanks like this. ***somthing to remember*** every 90 degree turn you make in your I/C your losing 1 percent hp.. don't use jb for this bring it to a welder to do a good job..

they are ford i/c's (deisel i/c's)
they were small though.

as for how its made... ?
theres nothing wrong with how its made.(the design)
other then the welding didnt hold.

the ONLY part that is jb welded is right down the center and its held up.

only this ONE side has the TIG weld let go.
howmany times do I have to type that?

Tig welding just does break. It looks like he doesn't know how to weld. And also where it looks like morse code, that looks like a incomplete weld, ( i cant really tell - pics suck )

haha, apparently you don't know SirKid!

I wonder if you're cooler's always been like this - if so how the hell were you ever making any boost?
Did you pressure test or water test the cooler after you finished putting the tanks on it???

When it was done it was working fine.
where I got the endtanks done. they pressure tested and everything.

the car did move well for a while then it seemed to die. i thought maybe it was cause of a map change but maybe it was this!(it got slow before the spun bearing )
who the heck knows.
all i know is, I either need to fix it or just buy a new one.
anyone wanna buy it? lol.
it doesnt need that much fixing.
