My J&S safeguard is on crack... or is it?
My turbo project is an 87 accord lxi. I am running a mitsubishi big 16g turbo, supplemental injection, and the J&S unit. However, the J&S wasn't a straightforward hookup, as the 87 accord does not have computer controlled timing. So, the only way I could hook it up is to hack into the wire between the coil neg and the ignitor, sending that to the ch 1 input. The wire also has a 400 or so ohm resistor btween itself and 12v, so as the ignitor connects and disconnects this wire to ground, the voltage goes between 0 and 12. On the output side, the J&S is connected to a 94 accord ignitor, which powers the coil. My problem is that I can't rev the car up without it misfiring, the tach jumping, and my msd rpm activated switch tweaking out. I tried switching the safeguard to the other 1 channel settings, and the miata setting helped, now I can hit 6k instead of 5 before it misfires. John at J&S doesn't have any ideas, except for me to send in the safeguard for him to check it out. When I touch the ch1 in to ground, the unit sends out multiple sparks, so I am reasonably sure the fault lies with the safeguard, not my setup, but if any of you guys have any ideas before I send it in, let me know...
thanks
