my dirty cheap build, da integra
I don't think I ever posted a build thread here.
Here's the progress over the last couple of years of my beater.
I'm the sort of hack that wants to do everything myself and don't car what it looks like as long as it sort of works.
I picked up this integra a few years ago as someone elses failed b16 swap.
They took the front clip off for a fiber glass front end, pulled the plugs, and let the engine fill up with water and seize. I dumped some oil down the cylinders and broke it free with a breaker bar, a new coil and I was up and running.
Added an HX-35 kit and blew a few pistons.
I slowly got rid of the altezzas, projectors, z3 fiberglass fenders.
Sold all of that and eventually the b16 to fund the project.
This was fun for a while, but eventually life made the car sit for a year or so.

Re: my dirty cheap build, da integra
I let the car sit for a while until a I met a young kid that got me to drag it out of the barn and get back into it.
I sold him a chipped ecu, 3 bar, 450's and tuned his ls/vtec.
He hit a pole a couple weeks later and needed the car to go away so I bought the swap (with all the extras) for stupid cheap.
Sold off the extras, had the mount welded on the block, and sold that too.
Cleaned up the head
Rebuilt the bottom end (first one, hope she lasts)
Picked up a set of arps for $40
Then I was in the right spot at the right time and picked up a b20z for $30 It even had a moroso oil pan still on it.
Threw it in late one night.
My oil lines from now on. I hate how ss braided lines chafe and fray and then tear the **** out of your hands.
Welded a vband onto the turbo outlet, got tired of drilling and tapping broken bolts anytime I had to pull the exhaust.
Of course this killed the tiny bit of clearance I had between the rad so I threw another manifold on. It wasn't any better so I had to 'fix' it.
I warped the **** out of the manifold. had to sand about an 1/8" out of the center to get it flat.

Threw in a vw scirocco rad, fits like it was made for it.
This was ripped straight from a thread http://www.realhomemadeturbo.com/for...ic,2391.0.html
Thanks, ratcityrex
I wanted to connect a boost solenoid to the top of the wastegate, and install my new hood. But every manifold I've had needs the webbing of the hood hammered to hell to close even without the top port connected. So once again I had to 'fix' the manifold.
I cut the flange off, and the tubing undernieth was much bigger than the elbow I was using. I had to cut a bunch of slits and hammer it smaller.
Then I welded the flange onto the other end of the elbow (random chunk of a stock h22 manifold)

Re: my dirty cheap build, da integra
I'm lacking some pictures for the next stage.
Long story short my tuner talked me into tearing into my engine and checking my bearings after 500 gentle miles.
Tolerances were way too tight and the bearings were showing signs of coming apart.
I put in a set of ACL X bearings with an extra .001 clearance in and checked. Plastigage showed my tolerances to be .0015 so I threw it back together.
Took it to they dyno and made 309 hp on 13.5 psi and a 7200 rev limit.

Re: my dirty cheap build, da integra
That was last year....
I couldn't stand the narrow power band shifting at 7200.
This year I took the pistons out and had ARP rod bolts pressed into the rods, rods reconditioned.
While it was out I oringed the block to get a little practice. (this is still the same b18a1 all stock bottom end)
Noticed a nice scratch in cyl 2, did a little ball hone on it and threw it back together.

Re: my dirty cheap build, da integra
Cranked it up to 19 psi and 8450 rev limit, took it to IFO a couple days later to see what it had.
Can't believe it held together, need to fix my clutch and get more practice.
2nd time ever at the track (first was 5 years ago) 1st time with slicks
Had to pull an all nighter to fix some last minute issues, so I had more red bull than hours of sleep.

Re: my dirty cheap build, da integra
I love this ****! People will give you **** for this and that, yadda yadda. I like a dirty, cheap car, built with a mig welder and a don't give a **** attitude. It's a shame HMT died the way it did. The days of looking at awesome flux-cored fab and lesbians licking each other in the same thread are sadly gone...

Re: my dirty cheap build, da integra
Thanks guys, it is built cheap to be beat on and it is certainly used and abused.
The best part is if it lets go i won't have a need to cry. For less than $500 I can have the another fresh arp'd bearings and ringed bottom end in it.
I did have a problem last week. Had the valve cover off and I had a friend finish it up while I was working on another car. He didn't see the ground strap hanging so it didn't go back on. Turbo munched it up good.
No worried its a cheap *** hx-35 that already had the wheel a bit chewed. I'll swap another wheel on or grab a $35 chinese ebay one and give it another go.
