Default my boosted mini me

I'm gonna make this my official Del Sol project thread so i'll update as i go...

UPDATE ON PAGE 3

well it took me about a year of collecting parts. This is my first turbo build and i won't lie, I built it based around the same turbo as BeerBongsKicksass's set up, and i'm super happy i did because the car ripps! 3500RPM all the way to redline.
I'm super proud of the build because i fabed about 80% of my kit. I didn't run into any major problems, installed it and started it right up. Not only did i build my own kit but along the way i also learned how to weld, basics of fabricating minor ****, planning and tunning better. So... anyone thinking about a custom turbo kit, i'd recomend doing as much research as possible.

My custom kit includes:
ShitBird short tubular manifold
T3 48/60 60 trim (down2turbo)
charge pipes and donpipe welded by me(Harbor Frieght on sale chop saw and flux core welder, holly ******* splatter!)
Johnnyrace car intercooler 6"
Tial 38mm wastegate (.4bar spring)
DSM BOV
Uberdata 1.7
dsm 450s
PLX 300

My car:
del sol
mini me (sohc zc/z6 head)

The down pipe was a serious pain in the *** for some reason but overall it turned out pretty good. It kinda hugs the oil pan, has great clearance but i wonder about it heating up the oil pan. Now that i think of it, the oil feed was a bitch too because of the tight space caused by the zc oil cooler.

My custom center vent gauge bezel and PLX wideband

well the last couple of days ive been trying to dial in higher boost... First i used a homemade boost controller (male and female 1/4" barbed nipples, pen spring and 3/16 ball bearing). It worked great and held 9-10psi great the first day, the next day it was only holding 7psi with occasional spikes.

I scrapped that boost controler and got a miniature pressure regulator, which has been a pain in the *** to dial in b/c its super sensitive. The first time out i was trying to be super careful doing only very little adjustments at a time. well after about 20 times pulling over adjusting and driving again i couldn't get it to hold higher than stock wastegate pressure, 6psi. So... i decide to turn it up a couple of turns and carefully watch the boost gauge... 1st.... 2nd....BOOST! i see it climb up to ten, i feel traction brake at the same time, i let off and notice the needle bounce to 15psi for a split second and drop... i was shitting my pants. i think everything is ok though, nothing abnormal so far...

i'm kinda ****... so little **** like that will make me loose sleep...haha...
i'm hopping to dial it in tomorrow.

point of story: be more cautious when experimenting with homemade ****.

i got bored today and welded up an extension to my down pipe. I used some extra pipe that i had laying around after the turbo install.

Surprisingly it muffled down alot of the noise. i might just even keep it like this permenently... its way quieter than the fart cans.

Slammd Sol
The manifold is a rank1racing.com (shitbird) manifold, i got mine for 315 shipped.
Is that a black sol you drive? I searched for a black or red sol for the longest time and no luck. i had to settle for the captiva blue, which i'm not too fond of...

your Sol looks nice!

have you ran your car yet? what kind of times?

yup, the sol in my av is my baby:

I brought her to the track 2 months ago, but didnt get a full run in cuz I kept blowing charge pipes. I have since redone the couplers and added t-bolt clamps. I am expecting low 13s on slicks. keep me updated with how your setup is goin and any dyno or 1/4 #'s.

hey man, nice setup. Be careful with those home made boost controllers. They can be very dangerous, but you seem to be cautious enough to know better that to stay on it. I am running around 9-10lbs on my d16z6 and it break the tires loose all the time 1st and second. I never rip on it, because it is my daily driver. But it is fun.

Slammd Sol
looks clean! what size turbo are you running?
yeah... i was asking about your time b/c 2 of my cousins thought it was a waste of money and time to boost a single cam... they bet me and my little bro $200 that my car will never run under a 13.99 in the spring. Its gonna be sad when i have to take family's money. i'm gonna be dissapointed if i don't hit 13.5.

13's should be easy. I am running practicaly the same setup as you. Same turbo from down2turbo too. Wideband is the next thing I need. I was thinkin of either the PLX or the zeitronix. Hows the PLX treatin ya? Do any tuning with it yet?
