My B18C1 Engine Build/Assembly
I guess you people don't read. Any car that has been built needs to start up before you take it to the tuner. Do you just build a motor, drop it in, and then bring it right to the dyno? HELL NO! You need to check for leaks & break-in the piston/rings. Do you think he's going to put 100s of miles on the car? No...leak down check, rings/pistons break-in, and then let Bisi tune the beast.

Yeah I am just driving it around town 2-3 miles a day cycling thru all the gears never going over 4,000 RPM and when you come to a stop, I use the gears to do most of the slowing, creating good vacuum. With regular driving i am only hitting .5 psi of positive pressure at most. I watch all of my gauges so I have a good idea of when the engine is doing. And let me tell you feels like the the engine and turbo wants to pull!

Dyno day will be nice. Are you bringing the wife or who is going to hold the camera?
Since you qouted me, I'm going to answer to you and what you posted and not what I'm imagining.
Ok, what of take it to a dyno and have a tuner break it in preclude not starting it up and checking for leaks.
Why not? what are the cons beyond spending more money with the tuner if something is wrong.
1st thing you posted that I agree.
For the OP, I disagree. If the OP had a ton of experience then yeah otherwise break in on the dyno.
I don't know what the OP was going to do. Thus the reason, I posted break it in on the dyno. If the OP was listening to others in this thread that is exactly what he would do after he was forced to fix his timing problem.
I disagree with that strategy. In the case of the OP, breaking in the rings before tuning will produce a so-so motor. Breaking in the rings while tuning will ensure proper ring seal with proper fueling and timing.

Thanks for the Tosh.0 breakdown segment. Back on track with the OP, he's doing it his way. Plenty of myths of how you should break in a motor. Do what you want, but keep your pissing contest to yourself. Looks like I struck a nerve Nancy boy

when I talked to Julio at Bisimoto, and received my base map that was hand tailored to my set up he said to go ahead and start the car and check for leaks heat cycle the engine a few times, change the oil and filter then drive the car around cycling thru the gears low RPM no boost. then change the oil and filter again before tuning. I used a good break in oil on the initial start-up and also running break in now as we speak. Before I take it to tune, I am going to change the oil again, add new non detergent + break in additive + new filter and new spark plugs (BKR8EIX) also going to install a new fuel filter.
Sorry if I derailed the thread at all. I was just asking a question didnt realize it would spark a huge debate. By the way what filter and oil are you using to break it in? Just curious since my motor is assembled Im just waiting to choose some oil and get new spark plugs so I can fire it up for the first time. Cant wait to see dyno results though should make some nice power.
There is no pissing contest just you being yourself.

I didnt really like all the shiny bits in my engine bay, so I pulled a few out and hit them with some high temp primer and the wrinkle black to give it a more OEM-ish look. I'm not one for bling bling. I labeled the stuff I painted and I also relocated the valve cover breather.

Make sure day before dyno day, you check on the couplers and clamps to make sure that everything is all secure. The last thing you want is one to pop (causing a severe change in pressure shift) during a dyno pull. That is one of the leading killers of journal bearing turbos on a dyno, regardless of make and model and manufacturer. that sudden shift causes the thrust bearings and bushings to move and the cause some internal damage. Usually this is like with high pressure runs over 11-15psi depending upon size.

Oh man! I want that turbo man! I love the black look! I will be going over everything before I load the car up on the trailer for dyno day. As far as he plugs that's what they (Bisimoto) want me to run.
cant wait for your tune tomorrow!!! i cant wait to see what a shodan special will put out. i wil hopefully be getting a turbo from him as well. how loud is your BOV? since i live in socal i want mine to be silent lol. build looks awesome man.
Good luck with the tune CaliforniaDad !!! I'm sure you'll be happy. That turbo is a complete beast lol !! I'll be taking my car to the dyno next week to finish the tune off.
BTW, I know its a bit off topic, but isnt the law quite strict out there when it comes to modifying car's ? I keep hearing different things about it so i don't know what to believe. I can't really see it been that strict myself with the amount of turbo/modded Civic's i've seen from out there.

well I just finished prepping the car getting ready to put it on the trailer.
I just...
Changed the oil and filter
Added 30wt non-detergent + Redline break in additive
Changed the spark plugs
Changed the fuel filter
Topped off all fluids
Re-checked all pipe clamps
Mixed a fresh batch of Water/Meth 50/50
Ready to go I think
