MSD quality strikes again.............
That sucks. Defintly try contacting them. I've never had a problem with MSD. I've had it on 3 different cars but everyone gets that one item that f*cks up.

Ive had some issue's with msd parts. I had a probelm on the teg three months ago. I thought it was the igntion coil pack because it was the msd ss external coil. That turned out to be in good working order. Then I drove the car for another week. No check lights on. Then one day i put my foot to the floor and the car just started to miss like crazy mad, it would not let me go past 5grand. I took the car home slowly. I have an msd cap and rotor to work with the external coil along with msd 8.5mm wires. I took the distributer cap off and found alot of greenish brownish corrosion in there. I cleaned the terminals inside and out and put the cap back on. Started the car up. Floored it and no probelms ever since.

Yeah it looks like its not bonded to the board. But all their peices look that way. It seems to be a weak link.

already on number two dizzy and soon to be number two ignitor.... has not even been 5 months less than 8k on the products... something is wrong here and its not an error on my part. If you don't count buying MSD in the 1st place...
I just to live in El Paso TX, and had a friend that worked for they're tech line. He told me every time that the customer would call and complained about the parts the supervisor would tell them to blame it on tuning issues or not being properly installed. I had to take my digital sci back to them about 4 time before i just decided to sell it, good thing i only live 10min from the facility
DrVtec99, how are your under hood engine bay temps?
I ran into a buddy of mine who is also using the MSD dizzy... Basically he was telling me about how he is on his third MSD dizzy/ignitor because the ones he had keep breaking apart and craps out for no apparent reason. I was also the guy who recommended him the MSD dizzy as well, so it makes me "affiliated" with his problems.
Because the MSD parts were out of stock again, I ended up selling my old unit to him (which has been running for almost 8 months now). I actually have a brand new system in my basement so I didn't mind helping a friend out.
Guess what, in less than a month he comes back and says his MSD unit crapped out again. The car wouldn't start at all, etc... typical dead ignition symptoms. This doesn't make any sense because the same dizzy and ignitor was installed in my own car and it was perfectly fine for 8 months of daily beating . I am also making a lot more power than him, and also revving higher (my redline is 9200 vs his 8200), and I drive like a **** (you can't drive normally with a GT2871R and ITB's...ROFL
)
I noticed his ignitor was completely beaten up, the MSD dizzy looked abused and slightly discoloured. Upon inspection and checking out his engine bay, he's running a ramhorn manifold, uncoated, wastegate dump tube flying across the engine bay, etc... You can cook a chicken, some ribs and then some
My suggestion is to keep those engine bay temps nice and low... There seems to be a pattern of problems assosciated with heat whenever the MSD stuff craps out for no apparent reason

My under hood temps are undercontrol. I dont't think the temps is what casued the board to malfunction. It looks like the heatsink did not have a good seal on the base of the board allowing moisture to collect. Thus in turn may have casued the epoxy to lift up once moinsture got into the area. I believe the high humidity levels where I live may cause some of the problems.
i have had some of the same problems with dis4's and 6a boxes getting hot and not wanting to work.
just to get one really hot and test it good in a friends car i jacked up the dwell going to the thing to make sure the ignitor and coil were getting a good workout, he has about 5k miles on it with no problems so far. (i added about 25% more dwell than stock)

i work in a parts store and ive returned numerous cracked msd caps and defected a few of there "high performance" coils. i personally dont care what anyone else says, msd is riding on there name, plain and simple.
I got rid of my MSD 6A and I have the external SS blaster coil hooked up. I've never had a problem <knocks on wood> with this setup. Plus the external coil is cheaper then the OEM ignitor.
