Hey all, just a quick MSD 6a install question, im almost ready to runing my fully built engine, yeepie and boost the hell out of her. But I think im having a problem with my MSD ignition drawing current all the time. It seems like when I turn my car off the MSD drains the battery.
The way I wired up my MSD 6a unit and the MSD blaster 2 coil, was I removed the stock coil from under the disy cap, ran the correct wires to the MSD coil, and 2 larger wires directly to the battery (+ and - ). Mean while the triggers ran into where the old coil was, and attached to there correct output.
Does this seem right, and is there anyway the MSD could be drawing current when the car is turned off, it seems to me because its connected directly it would draw current, but MSD recommend to wire it directly so im confused what stops the MSD from drawing current when the car is off ?
Regards James
If you connected it how you say, it should not draw any power from the battery when the ignition is off. How are you determining it is drawing power? Do you have a meter on the wire?
It sounds like you have it wired correctly, maybe the box is faulty.

Shouldnt drain the power when the power wire (red) is connected directly on the batter.
Are u assuming that it will drain the battery or has it? alternator bad??

You can always leave the white wire"triger" on the neagtive part of coil inside sub assembly"white/blue wire", then take the red wire and hook it up to a switched 12 volt source either, a relay or a keyed ignition source. if you leave the red wire totaly dsconected and the battery is still being drained then the 6a has a issue. But the 12 volt power to the coil should be off when the igntion switch is off.I would look for a short or some other aftermarket wirring causing a problem, even an aftermarket alarm can drain the battery.Good luck.Jason

yeah great advice guys....
yeah im assuming its draining the battery bc the car is becoming harder and harder to start each time, like the battery is getting flatter and flatter.... ill check the alternator, that could be maybe the cause. i hav't got a multi meter onto the battery yet iv borrowed one now, so il check in a few hours.
as for the 12v triger wire thats connected i belive to inside the disy cap to the positive wire, where the old coil use 2 be conected to ( theres a postive + on the disy which is where its conecnted to, mean while the ground groud singel tringer goes to the - in the disy cap.)
ill check the current to the coil when the car is off also... so if that has 0volts when the car is off... the msd won't be drawing power.. yeah ???
Thanks for your advice so far guys !!! you rock !
