mixing octanes at the pump
I have a question about purchasing gas.
I've been mixing a gallon of 100 octane with 91 octane at the 76 in town. Each time I pay I would go inside, pay 10 bucks for the 91 octane. Then I would go back in and drop another 5 bucks on the same pump and switch to 100 octane.
Is this necessary or can I put 15 bucks on the same pump and fill 10 dollars of 91 then stop, and switch to the 100 octane for the remaning 5 bucks?

Whoa.. You have 100 octane at the pump? I wish, we did. Umm at QT i have mixed gas before because me and my friend wanted to see what it would do. You have to stop pumping and either go inside or use a pay at the pump and have them reset the pump. Unfortunately this is the only way to do it where I live atleast.
This may sound a little scottish....but I'm cheap.
If it were me, I would pump the 100 octane first if it is a mixing pump...(single hose). The reason being that there is good 100 octane fuel in that hose!
Then fill the 91 octane, and you get a hose full of 100 octane for the price of 91.
Otherwise you are always leaving a hose full for the next guy of really good fuel if you pump the 100 octane last.
