highest pump gas numbers?
Just curious, what's the most you guys have seen on pump gas on a b-series motor? Lately i've done a few over 400whp and i'm wondering how far we can really go w/o water/methanol injection. Most of the cars i've done over 400whp on pump have been running for a while and none have had any problems. I used to think that over 400 was too far, but with enough timing taken out at 428whp there was no knock. I didn't want to push it any more, but i'm curious. These were 9:1 motors by the way.

forgot about cali's 91. You guys are fucked! Anyways, pump gas for most of the people is 93 octane so that's what i'm going with and what my runs were on.

Re: highest pump gas numbers? (tony1)
great topic, but when you retard the timing so much, dont the EGT's climb to unstable conditions?

Depending on how much boost. I was just saying in general retarding timing usually results in higher egts. You are the expert though Tony. I would think that if you are on pump gas and 15-18psi I guess and I don't know because I don;t do my OWN tuning yet but maybe 18 degrees? Am I off? Maybe less timing? The higher the boost I would figure lower the timing?

Re: highest pump gas numbers? (Boostfed)
good thread.
can someone explain to me however the reason to try to get such high number on pump? we all no its un useable, i guess just so u dont have to pay the premium for c16 or others? if ur egts are climbing w/ the retarding, wouldnt it just be better overall to drop in the race gas and bring the timing up to stabilize the egts? just a question i was wondering.

428 is a good number. I stopped being curious at 408whp. What kind of boost pressure are you running to make those numbers and what displacement? I am .020 over and 1 bar, 91 Octane. My egt's stay below 750 degrees Celsius. I have run this setup now for about a year and a half. I think it is very reliable.
I wonder about the percieved limits myself.

i think we need to find some cylinder combustion pressure sensing spark plugs. We have one at school, but it is for a motorcycle engine...

Re: highest pump gas numbers? (FFgeoff)
i've been pondering this idea for quite some time, seeing as it's been done strictly for emissions purposes!
imagine running on 100% propane, AND getting lower emissions than stock!!
maybe we should post a new thread, i dont want to hijack talking about it ;-)

damn Tony. 428 is awesome. I guess I really need to get a bigger turbo and bring my car back to you for more tuning.

It running a little rich. If I hold the car at 3-5% throttle it will pop and backfire a little bit. It sounds ike a 3rd gen RX-7 .
