ok i had leaky seals so i pilled the head and had the head redone. it doesnt smoke any more but im still missing oil......theres none on the spark plug threads, comp is fine, leak down was fine....where should i check for leaks? the oil pn gasket looks "wet" so im guessing it might be leaking outta there? where else is a comon place for leaks. BTW its a built ls/vtec running 10w30....should i run a thicker oil n see if it helps? if so which weight should i run?

 

I'm positive I'm burning oil [not a lot, but some]. I don't think I'm leaking much. I used to run 10w30, moved up to 10w40, and now run 20w50. It slowed the loss of oil some, but not a whole lot.

 

well this weekend i went to orlando (200miles away) and after driving there, then around 100 miles around orlando i checked my oil and noticed i was a quart low....but the car isnt smoking at WOT or ne thing....im confused lol.

 

I'm in the same boat as you, I am losing oil, I know I am burning some but its only at WOT, Its a built B18C1, just got done breaking it in. I think my oil pan gasket is leaking also, but I never see any oil on the ground, but the oil pan and gasket are always "wet". I'm running 10-30 also.

im gonna get a oil cooler, catch can, and degrase the whole motor....im also gonna change the oil pan gasket and the valve cover gasket and see if it fixes it....ive also started shifting at 3k rpms and taking it easy on the motor to see if it helps it ne.....i guess ill find out

 

I have a catch can in mine, Greddy with a breather added. I can't see any leaks on my motor besides the oil pan, I'm just gonna get a new one when I take it off to tap it. When I broke in my motor I stayed under 4k for 500 miles. Then made sure vtec worked and kept shifting under 4. I'm at 700 miles now and I am just waiting for all the turbo parts to come in. The amount of oil I am losing though is kinda scaring me . Let me know what helps you.

 

how much r u loosing? can u smell it or ne thing?

 

When I drive about 100 miles I am missing like 1/2 quart. I can't smell anything at all. It's definetly scaring me though, I check my oil like 5 times a day.
