mild explosion when releasing throttle?
I just installed my turbo about 2 days ago and It seems to be driving fine but I try to hit boost as least as possible until I get my blockguard in and reduce my wastegate spring.
Anyhow when I am in 1st gear or sometimes any gear I give it light throttle and it goes but when I release the gas and coast I hear some type of explosion from either the downpipe section of the turbo ( dont have a downpipe on yet) or the motor itself. The car drives fine its just this little explosion as I release throttle that scares me. As far as detonation I dont really know how thats suppose to sound other than what Ive heard about (BB's in a can) which still doesnt help much. Also its hard to tell if I do hear this rattle or BB's in a can at idle because I have motor mount inserts and the car itself rattles like a bitch. Can you hear detonation at idle?
Setup ;
Stock B16a2
Custom T25 with internal wastegate (Currently 12 psi need to lower)
12:1 FMU
Blitz BOV

So your running an open dump tube? no DP or exhaust.
If so your going to hear "backfire" type noises when you release the throttle, the muffler will take these out.
Detenation sounds like a ping, knock. You'll know it when you hear it.

I am hearing backfire and I am just being hella paraniod because this is my only motor and car. But if its just backfire because of no d/p then I guess im good to go for now. I need to drill a hole in my intake portion pipe for the IAT sensor and get that d/p on because without the o2 sensor on my fuel curve is not running right.
Also I didnt drive my car for one whole day and today when I tried to crank her up it took literally like 7 cranks till she finally started up. Also I noticed that I was hella low on oil even though I just did an oil change 2 weeks ago =\

I just got some gromets so I am about to go to a friends house to drill a hole for the IAT sensor. After that I need to get my downpipe made but they want like 250 for that **** so I dont know how long its going to be til i get my d/p. As for the engine bay yes it gets extremely hot and because of the way the downpipe is facing instead of down but side ways towards the radiator fan housing it has melted some of the fan housing off already
I rarely boost, because of a couple reasons;
1. Stock wastegate is set at 12 psi so if I boost I have to control it by throttle or it will hit 12 and I dont want to blow my motor =\
2. No downpipe equals ALOT of hot air in the engine bay if I gun it
3. Well I only hit boost or high rev it a lil if I want to hear my lovely BOV
When I first put the turbo in I did hit 9 psi about 3 different times during the test drive but have yet to pass 5 psi now because of parnoia

i'd say it's backfire from running a tad rich. hook up a a/f gauge and see. mines backfires pretty loud because i'm still running the greddy blue box with my greddy turbo kit and type 31 ic
