Default Rigging my external Deltagate... G.R.R.

Hi, I am the owner, operator and sole customer of Ghetto Rig Racing (G.R.R.)

Ok, so I got borded this weekend and pulled over at a gas station and pulled off my wastegate. Just left the flange to the manifold and drove home (about 5 miles) The car sounded like a dragster, turbo didn't even try to spool under full throttle I was making a whole bunch of noise under throttle. Got home and (**funny part**) The heat from my side venting WG melted my alarm's siren (**funny part**) HAHAHAH LOL ! Well, I took my DeltaGate WG to my apt and proceeded to disassemble it. (after it cooled off) My situation is I am interested in boosting NOTHING right now. Then after that I want to be able to reduce boost pressure to minimal amounts (like 2-4 psi) in the future. For those of you that know/have seen this... here are my thoughts:
Just for the record, the inside of the WG is like a spring with upper and lower mounting cups, nothing in the middle. The outer screw on the face causes the spring to increase tension. The other end of the spring is pushing on a disk that is connected to a piston/valve that closes/opens the WG and bleeds off exhaust at pressure.

What I have been wondering is, if I totally removed the spring to allow the valve to simply allow ALL exhaust pressure out.. essentially leaving the WG open full time, or would that damage the 'spider' type diaphragm that holds the disk in place ?

As far as I have seen, the softest spring that I can find is 7psi, but I want around 3psi as my max boost, so I can pump it up with the MBC some. Where would I be able to find various springs (sizes and tension) ?

Also, to reduce boost level on the spring, I assume they make the lower springs softer and not shorter. How would I go about softening the spring I have now ?

X2

Go to http://www.mcmastercarr.com and buy the spring you need/want. You want one with the same diameter and length but more coils and/or thinner gauge spring wire.

Turbonetics makes a 3-5lb spring, which I bought from Ben 2 weeks ago (still haven't arrived..)...

Run it at 3 lbs.

Wow, cool, thanks for the info, I will contact Ben. Why was a spring with more coils suggested ? Would that not be more firm, hence higher boost ?
