Mechanics class for turbo
Me and I of my friends are planning on putting a turbo on an Integra gsr and he
plans on putting 1 on his eclipse. We are trying to find a place to take a mechanics
class but all the places we go to say they woulnt go that far in depth. We live in Roanoke VA if someone could point us in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

i don't know of any place that just teaches a "turbo" class, your best bet is read everything on these boards, magizines, books, etc...i could be wrong though...

Like I'd recommend to anybody who wants to learn about turbos. Go to Barnes and Nobles (or any book store for that matter) and buy, Maximum Boost by Corkey Bell. That is the best book to read if you want to learn about turbos. and of couse Search H-T forced induction forum threads. Evan

This is the new age classroom. Everybody is a teacher and a student. All you do is read, read, read, and ask if you got a question. i learned everything i know about turbos here and some outside sources.
Sorry if that does not help you much, but it helped me.

Re: Mechanics class for turbo (AGen2integra)
I've got the Maximum boost book and have read it a few times and have been reading this forum for a while now but i have no experience working on cars so im not very confident that i can do the install w/o messing up my engine...should i take some kind of general mechanics class or just dive right in???

you could dive right in, IF you feel confident enough to do so. if you have any doubts then you could take a general mechanics class, but more than often they only teach basic stuff, like changing your oil, and how an engine works. not about adding performance parts to your vehicle. although it will provide you with a generalization of things which is good in general. you could always have it installed. but that cost money and defeats the purpose. another option is you could ask everyone in H-T. i've learned more reading on H-T than i did in any mechanics class. and finally you could ask someone who lives around you who knows what they are doing to help with the install. never be afraid to ask for help, its how you learn. good luck.

you might just be able to talk to a diesel truck shop and see if they will let you be a shop hand for less then what they pay other people just to get a little experence. there are no technical schools when will let you take a correspondence corses

Re: Mechanics class for turbo (CovertFI)
Nope me and my friend went to a high school nearby that offered a class but it was for old cars and he said it wouldnt even come close to what we were looking for and the VWCC took its auto mechanics class away this year bc they wanted more funding in the arts program. I think were going to go down to New River CC next semester and take a class but its like an hrs away.
