Maximum shaft play on t3 turbo?
I got a free t3 turbo (garrett) and I was wondering what the maximum shaftplay should be if I am going to use it..It has around .001~ shaftplay, just a littlebit but more than enough to notice.
thanks

Turbos are supposed to have a bit of shaftplay. Its the seals that you have to look at. You can have a fairly unbalanced turbo, and still have good seals. Usually if the turbo doesn't 'scream' from a combo of an unbalanced shaft and sideplay, its okay.
And for ~$175 for VSR balancing, its almost better to get a brand new T3.

Re: (pythoner)
As previously posted, a turbo will have shaft play, especially if there are ball bearings. If there was no play it probably wouldn't spin and that would not be a good thing. But if you're really concerned just take it to a tuner in your area and have them a good look over, they should be able to do look at it for free.
