Mating a Greddy D-series turbo kit to a B-series motor..
A buddy of mine has a chance to purchase a D-series greddy kit w/ intercooler for a real good price. Unfortunatley he has a B-series motor (b18b). I have seen some posts a few times about people modifying the D-series manifold to fit onto a B-series motor.
I am basically doing all the work on installing this and would like to know if anyone has any experience in doing this conversion. I would also like to know how much potential a little turbo can make on a Bseries motor.
Thanks

Match the manifold bolt holes to the DOHC head.
It's not hard, just get a stock DOHC gasket and overlay it on the SOHC manifold.

The bolt pattern is a lil different with the BIG difference at the end bolts. You can seriously ghetto rig the manifold with a dremel to fit the B head, but it will look ghetto as hell and be prone to exhaust leaks.
The cheapest option short of buying a B series manifold is to go to a machine shop that has a CNC machine, take them a B series exhaust manifold gasket and have them copy the shape and sell you a CNC cut flange. Then take the D series manifold, cut off the existing flange and weld on your new B flange.
Hit up the ports with a grinder to clean up the edges and open the ports some and voila... Ghetto engineering at it's best and it won't look or function too badly either.

Well the re done flange will cost about $80-$100 with the welding, etc...
But damn... an actual HKS manifold is only $225 new ? Damn, I've been out of the boost game too long !

you beat me to it!
that's what i'd do. Some people may get away with modifying the greddy d manifold for the b head but it can lead to cracking or leaking exhaust fumes.
