The massive boost leak *pic*
Looks like i have to look for a new t3 turbo or find someone who can rebuild this one. 2 injector seals were leaking as well. I fixed those. Then i saw this other huge leak. Is it just possible to replace that seal on the compressor side without rebalancing the turbo shafts and going through the whole rebuild process?
Here is the pic

You don't see the big bubble of soap on the compressor side?
I did a boost leak test and that's what i found.

haha, no i didnt even know what was going on there, but i do see it now..
why dont you take the compressor cover off, and clean the black muck that builds up over the years and put it back together, also be sure to check the torque on those compressor cover bolts. you may have a loose one ?

its there, its just short, you can see the head of it.(its peekin at you )

I'm not missing any bolts. The bolt is a bit short, that's it.
Those bolts on the compressor are not loose, i tightened them when i clocked my turbo. It looks like it's clearly leaking from that seal. And where would i get torque specs for it. It's an old air research T3 42.48 turbo.
Not sure what was it on before, saab maybe.

Re: (93CX)
Never seen rebuild garret turbos for $300.
XS turbo? How long do they last? 5 minutes?
You can't rebuild turbo on your own, its a high precision process. You have to balance out the shaft after.

My buddy just bought a rebuilt Garret turbo .48cold/.60hot on eBay for $300 shipped. We tuned it on his stock GSR at 8.5 pounds and it made 283whp/213wtq, so I'd say it's pretty nice.

most turbos have a big O ring once you get the snail housing off the cartridge
i say, loosen the bolts as you were going to clock it, remove the snail (aluminum) and see if uses one, then from there you can put a new O ring if needed

Re: (JoePSI)
I was thinking about rtv over the old seal but not sure if that will withstand any pressure.
Anyone knows if that is the square cut seal or it's a round seal?

Re: (JoePSI)
15 psi and 4 years later........ it's holding fine
maybe your misunderstanding, take off the compressor housing, take out the gasket and reseal it with rtv instead of using the gasket, don't just plug the leak with rtv on the outside.

Re: (UltimaSE)
I wasn't even thinking about that lol
Sometimes rtv doesn't hold the pressure. I'll try that first.
I got some "right stuff" rtv that i'll try.
