Default Map Sensor

Hey guys. I'm new to turbos.

I have fitted an Apexi turbo kit to my B16A2.
I need to get it remapped.
I fitted my Omnipower 3 bar Map sensor to the car, expecting it to be "plug and play". The car idles fine, but every time i touch the accelerator, the RPM drops and the car stalls out. When i have my stock map sensor in, it works fine.

The Map sensor is second hand, but i'm told it worked fine.

Am i being stupid? Does the car have to be remapped or calibrated for the new map sensor? - What am i doing wrong?

What tuning program are you running? In hondata you can select what type of map sensor you're running so it can calibrate itself to know what the readings mean. Otherwise it does what you described.

Why do you want to use a 3 bar map sensor?

Unless you've adjusted the tune to the scaling of the new Map sensor, you're going to have issues with the new sensor. What are you tuning on?

I have a hondata s200 but it's not installed yet - My local tuner says he prefers to tune using Chrome using an AEM Tru-Boost

So you're saying that it's best to leave my stock map sensor in until i get my map?

Why do you want to use a 3 bar map sensor?
I will probably be boosting above 11psi and i read the stock map sensor is useless above this range -I heard the omnipower 3 bar was decent

The fact that he prefers Crome worries me slightly.

Yes, leave your stock map sensor alone until you either A.) Switch to the s200 with a basemap for your setup or B.) Go to the dyno to get tuned.

The problem is that the stock MAP sensor reads 1.8bar and the scaling is such that on a 1-10 scale, each increment is 1.8bar/10 or 0.18. If you run the same scaling on a 3bar map each you get a much different outcome 3.0/10 = .3. This is what causes the strange issues you're having. Small changes in throttle position will have a large change as far as the MAP sensor is concerned and it will overcompensate. **Disclaimer - follow my logic, not the numbers...this is a made up example**
