Default manifold weld

Just got my turbo and manifold and they are welded together. I'm kinda bumbed although I think it should be able to be ground off and fixed correctly. Any ideas? Do you think it would be ok to leave it welded together? The turbo was recently rebuilt and I'm thinking if I have problems I could take the whole thing off but I don't forsee needing to remove it. any thoughts? Should I go ahead now and remove the turbo from the manifold?

Why would anyone ever do that?
Why did you buy them like that?

didn't know they were like that till I got it. Looks almost like it came this way although I can't be sure. Looks like a bead around the outside. I don't see how you could weld it this good without taking the turbo out.

would I be better off buying a new exhaust housing and then a new manifold?

does it look sorta like this

IMO i would cut it off and put a flange on there. i like taking things apart

Hey you jacked my picture. Take it off, I had to do that for the guy I am doing that kit for, it was hard. he got that welded on their good. The reasons that is welded is because their is some thing between the manifold and the turbo to make the flow better (expermental). But if you think the weld will hold up leave it, and it is easy to fix the turbo is some thing goes wrong.

To save you the trouble of having to take the exhaust housing off everytime you need to remove the turbo, yes. Just get a new housing, and crack the weld that holds the one on there. After you get them apart clean up the manifold so you can reuse it instead of buying a new one.

What kind of experiment? How could you think putting something in there to alter flow help it?

u worked on that nissan? i read its temporary...waiting for a bigger turbo, but why weld it? what is in that small space that improves flow characteristics?

It looks similar to that but I don't see how the bolts could even go through the manifold. The flanges do match up and the weld looks like it was done the same way as the manifold, It almost looks like the housing could be saved but the manifold I don't see a fix for. Worse case I could buy a housing and manifold just means it will take a little more time to get it up an running but thats ok.

He wanted that manifold cause it looks "cool" and the flanges don't match up. He got it welded cause I didnt wana do it, also because their is some thing manifold that keeps the gases straight for as long as possible. If you note in the picture, he got the turbo put on the wronge way for a nissan. When the bigger turbo came in I had to do every thing again, but the shop he got it weld from assured him it would not fall off.

How did you guys make out with the turbos welded to the manifold? I was thinking about having that done to mine today, because the flanges dont match up, and i'm in a grine. This would be a temporary setup to get me thru summer at the most, what do you think? If the turbo was welded to manifold, would i have problems with vibrations and maybe crack a weld??
