Welding question (Turbo Manifold)
My friend and I were welding my manifold together yesterday using this welder:
This is how far we got on the manifold:
After that another friend comes over and tells us that my welder isn't strong enough to hold the manifold together under all the heat that the turbo will produce. Is this true? Or is the welder good enough to get the job done? Ijust want to make sure its ok to use before we finish the manifold.
---Don't mind the messy welds, my friend did the welding, and he is ALOT better at welding than me, so to me, those welds look good, but I know they are far from great. Thanks guys.

make sure you penetrate both sides of whatever you are welding...
Good luck...
ps...make sure that you really weld the hell out of whatever will be holding the turbo on...when that thing falls off, its really embarrasing(an experience a year ago...dont ask, only imagine) haha

if i were you i would spot wled it.and then have it tigged, actually i just bought a lincoln 135 and its awesome, but for mani's i would say to tig, try it out tho, it cant be that bad i dont think it will literally fall off but maybe just start cracking, keep an eye on it, that welder has enough power to penetrate the piping, but i dunno about the flange against the head, just grind and re weld

That welder should work.. I used too use my 125 lincoln and it did a good job.. Why did you get threaded pipe though? That just looks ghetto.

welders trick,drink milk before you weld galvonized,if you weld alot of it you will get a headache and possably sick to your stomach.

does look like plumbing pipe literally but mad props to homemade ghetto stuff that works, if its pretty doesnt necessarily mean you go faster
, but props to you man, plus a lot of those people that have big *** tigs think that we can afford them, i like that youre using a weldpak 100 and making it work

Hey guys, thanks for the replys. The pipe WAS threded, but I ground it all out with a di grinder then did a ghetto polish with a sand wheel. And yes it is galvanized and toxic, I know. But were still kickin. As far as welding it went, we smacked it with a hammer a few times and it broke. So we re did the entire mani. with a stick welder and used this expensive *** rod that has gold and some other **** in it. It cost 15$ for half a pound of rod. Anyways, it looks worse now, but it is 10000x stronger. Now I am having a crazy hard time trying to figure out how im going to get the turbo flange on the mani. Sidenote: That is an old engine, its blown up, I am just using it to mock up my mani while I wait for my block to get back from golden eagle.

get a 2X3 chunk of square steel tubing(2 or 3 inches long), cut it, and weld it on....then drill hole for WG(if applicable).

Stick welding can look damn good if you get a good stick welder
My brothers stick welds are a textbook example of how it's been done (12 years of mig/stick experience)
I would definately go with the mcmastercarr Butt weld pipe bends, and Tee's, it will look much more professional, and it really isn't all that expensive.
Here is what i use when i do manifolds for custom turbo projects.
Tig welding isn't real important, (but it's what i use.. now!) just make sure the weld joints are nice and clean, you get good penetration, and you don't have any undercut or porosity!

oh Definately. For me it's always performance over looks!!!
I need to take some pics of my bro's stick welding it's amazing!
The best way for you to attach it would be to torch a hole, and weld a flange on with side gussets, i think.

how about welding it form the inside the grinding the welds so that wont cause ehxaust flwo problems, then also grinding on the outside, that would penetrate liek a ****, and would be strong as hell, do a few passes and you'll know taht **** aint going no where!!
