All the dp's i see are welded together from 2-4 pieces most of the time. I was wondering why you couldnt get a muffler shop to just mandrel bend a piece of pipe for the dp? there are really only two curves on a typical one, right?

just wondering, im assuming the is a good reason, because i have never seen one.

 

because regular muffler shop doesn't have mandrel bent machine.. they're quite expensive..

 

oh the ones around here do.

right Id like to see a midas that has a mandrel bender I am sure that the corporate office would love that one.

 

When I was at a muffler shop buying some flanges I asked the guy there if he knew of anywhere that had a mandrel bending machine... he proceeded to tell me that they had one, so I made him show me a bend that they had done... it was creased all along the inside of the bend.

Moral of the story is: Most muffler shops are just a bunch of idiots with welders. I think argon destroys brain cells or something..

I live in beaverton oregon (near portland) and we have this shop/ chain called Eds mufflers and they have 'em. I guess Im lucky....

But so back to the question, so it would be fine? the only reason people dont do it is becuase they are not easy to find?

 

right most people have to buy mandrel bends and weld them together because a good computerized mandrel bender cost over $30,000... before trusting "Eds mufflers" to have one, I would have hime show it to you.. a mandrel bender inserts a mandrel into the pipe to hold the diameter from the inside... it usually isn't finacially feasable for a mufflershop to buy.. 99.9% of their customers dont require mandrel bends

 

well i have had work done there and i have seen it. it is NOT pintch bent, it IS mandrel. now their machine may not be computerized but thats not the point......

i didnt bring it up for you guys to tell me i have no idea what im talking about, to those of you who actually help thank you.
