making a new oil return line?
i was just changing my oil, and noticed that whoever installed the turbo on the car had the oil return line resting on the crossmember, and it has rubbed a hole into the line, causing quite the oil leak.
i need to figure out how to make a new one to put on there by saturday, as i will be taking a small road trip that day.
problem is, i have never done anything before with stainless braided hoses, and i dont really even know where to start with this. it also has regular brass fitttings, not AN fittings.
can somebody point me in the right direction here?

If it's just brass barb fittings then you don't need to do any fittings... it's just hose clamps... and you don't need stainless braided line.. .you can use any automotive hose with enough i.d. and temperature rating.
pics of the current setup would help.

I'd go to a car parts store... but I'm sure Home Depot would have something that would work... bring the fittings from the turbo and the oil pan and get hose that will fit.

Re: making a new oil return line?
yeah, i think thats what im gonna do....a big problem was that its my only car, and if i took the line off, then i wouldnt have a way to get to the store to get the parts. but, my friend said i could take it to his shop, and hed take it apart, so i could go to the store and get what i need. does anybody know of any other kind of hose i could use that can withstand oil temps ok?

Every setup is different man, your the only one who can fix it....lol
Anyhow, barb fittings can be had @ home depot or parts store. If your not doing stainless line, I belive it's 5/8 heater core hose that is = to -10 braided line. Go snag that and some clamps and get crackin. Just make sure there are no kinks, and no uphills in the line. Has to be a straight shot to the pan, or downhill so it will drain. Any kinks or ups in it, and youll have oil backing into the turbo, and will make the thing smoke, and/or potentially damage the seals in the turbo....good luck

Re: making a new oil return line?
haha, i guess i dont really have to worry about turbo seals as the center section has been leaking pretty good for the last 2yrs. but im very short on money, so im just trying to fix immediate/damage causing problems at the moment. i dont even want to think about how many "other" leaks there are right now.....if its a seal, its leaking on this thing. its super embarrassing to leave puddles under the car like i do.
